The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the–Global Safety and Security Analystin London or any existing Save the Children International office location.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The SCI Global Safety and Security Analyst (GSSA) will be a master of intelligence in the area of international relations, (geopolitics) and Safety and Security. As a member of the Global Safety and Security (GSS) team, the GSSA will manage several real-time safety and security, conflict activity, social economic, and risk advisory platforms and comprehensive incident datasets in order to inform, and develop high quality data visualisation products and tools, to enhance early warning/ preparedness, and support the application of evidence-based management decision-making for Country Offices, (CO’s) Regional Offices, (RO’s) SCI and SC Association (SCA).
By combining SCI’s access to several safety, security, social economic and risk platforms, independent research, collaborating with external partners, countries, regional or global teams, this role will proactively lead, manage, and contribute to any scheduled outputs/products and bespoke safety, and security analysis required or requested. Additionally, in order to more specifically support and inspire our three breakthroughs, the global strategic plan, and programming priorities of SCI and its partners, the GSSA will also be tasked with identifying, leading and coordinating key areas for safety, and security research that address prevailing assumptions and challenges related to enabling programming for children.
This is a new and exciting role and although not limited to, the likely tasks led by the GSSA would include; independent research, produce in person or virtual briefings, briefing papers, bulletins, maps, reports and other products on safety and security, and geopolitical events. The GSSA will also assist GSS and SCI to develop, and lead specific partnerships with key safety and security forums, academics, analyst groups, and think-tanks.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Masters degree in international relations, political science, sociology, international policy and diplomacy, safety and security in development or equivalent through experience
Experience in political analysis and conflict prevention
Five to ten years professional experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism
Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations
Experienced in providing insight to senior stakeholders using story-telling narratives, supported by the use of graphs/chart/maps when necessary
Written and spoken fluency in English, proficiency in a second or third language preferred
Ability to work in a matrix management environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and a very strong capacity for effective teamwork.
Experience in using internal systems (finance, grant management, etc.) to extract relevant data to use on wider GSS analysis
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often demanding environment
Commitment to Save the Children values
Ability and willingness to change work practices, and hours in the event of major emergencies including travelling at short notice and for extended periods of time
A good level of use of MS office suit in general, especially a good level of Excel
Basic level or willingness to learn PowerBI
Basic level or willingness to learn Esri ArcGIS
