Overview of position:
Established in 1997, our client works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war & IEDs by coordinating UN mine action, leading operational responses at the country level & supporting the development of standards, policies & norms.
Role objectives:
Under the overall guidance & supervision of the Chief of Operations, the consultant is responsible for the following:
Prepare & conduct explosive threat mitigation awareness & training in Ouagadougou & different locations in affected administrative regions.
In coordination with the Chief of Operations, prepare, maintain training & lessons plans for delivery.
Contribute to prepare & / or update the relevant training packages.
Prepare the relevant training aid kits.
Report about all training activities performed in the provided locations.
Propose all changing or training improvement assessed as necessary.
Actively participate to the implementation & maintenance of our clients Burkina Faso IED incidents database & mapping.
S / he shall be responsible for his / her travel arrangements & report to our clients Burkina Faso Project Manager.
Other tasks as directed by the Project Manager
Assist in the production, implementation & monitoring of technical training documentation.
Continuously look for areas of improvement in efficiency, effectiveness & safety of the program with regarding to training for the beneficiaries.
Possess a sound knowledge of IMAS & IATG’s.
S / he shall be responsible for his / her travel arrangements & report to our clients Burkina Faso Project Manager.
Other tasks as directed by the Chief of Operations.
Project reporting:
This role works under the overall guidance & supervision of the Chief of Operations.
Key competencies:
Master’s Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required or military experience with a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience.
3 years of experience in explosive threat mitigation.
2 years as trainer (or equivalent task).
1 year previous work experience within the UN system (desirable).
Minimum of 7 years of demonstrable relevant mine action experience.
Effective work experience in the sub region & recent context.
Recent IED TM operational field experience (within the last 36 months) within a military or civilian govt. program desired.
Experienced in IED threat mitigation field through police or military career or equivalent (required).
Thorough training & coordination of training experience (required).
Flexibility to adapt training phases to the framework & local context & to react as necessary.
Ease in dealing with national security forces & authorities.
Ability to work with & mentor national trainer.
Knowledge of IMAS & of the use of IMSMA are required.
Experience with the QA & QC processes.
Knowledge of the UN system procedures is an asset.
Computer literacy, in particular, experience of using MS Office software & IMSMA is an asset.
Decision making capability to face unexpected situations.
Ability to work in multicultural context & environment.
Ability to travel & work in harsh living conditions.
Fluent in (speaking / reading / writing) in French is required.
Intermediary level in English (speaking / reading / writing) is required.
Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the objectives of the organisation.
