We are looking for an Operations and Liaison Manager within the Eurasia & North Africa team. They will enable Tearfund to maintain a presence in Syria through security management, liaising with government officials, partner organizations, and legal counsel, and operational oversight of Tearfund offices and residences.
The Operations and Liaison Manager is responsible for interacting with the relevant authorities and stakeholders in office and programme locations on a day-to-day basis in order to gain and maintain valid permission to carry out humanitarian aid projects, explain and justify why access is needed and at all times seek to ensure that Tearfund is able to maintain impartiality, neutrality and independence to reach people most in need. The OLM will report to the Country Director - Syria, and will act as Officer in Charge (OIC) for the Syria Country Office in the absence of international staff.
The ideal candidate will have:
Working experience with partners in the Middle East involved in humanitarian work.
Experience liaising with government authorities in Syria.
Experience of gaining access/project permissions OR Experience in a relevant government department in Syria
Security awareness and risk management training courses attended
Experience in gathering and analysing security information and recommending appropriate actions.
Experience managing others as team leader or line manager
Be a quick learner, works proactively with excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with oral and written proficiency in English and Arabic.
The ability to take initiative, be a great team player and work with integrity
