Summary
The Specialist is a key member of the Global Safety and Security (GSS) team, responsible for maintaining an effective safety and security management program for Save the Children US. You will act as an extension of the Senior Director, providing guidance and support as a liaison person with partners and related interagency networks. You will assist with technical support, supporting a common safety and security management approach in coordination with the Save the Children Alliance (SCA) structures as well as supporting Save the Children US safety and security management systems improvements consistent with our standards for safety and security.
You will assist the Senior Director, GSS with the provision of direct safety and security management support in emergency response and in responding to related inquiries from SCUS programs and managed accounts, and in developing content and delivering of staff security trainings and briefings, providing safety and security travel management support, analyzing accounts linked to incident reports and security updates and maintaining an information exchange network.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact
Safety and Security Operations (80%)
Support efforts to improve safety and security for Save the Children operations, programs and staff, including all SCUS Emergency Response Programs and SCUS managed accounts;
Maintain an effective safety and security management system consistent with Save the Children policies and standards;
Provide input to GSS strategic and operational plans via assessments, audit and compliance functions;
Monitor internal safety and security related organizational systems, including maintaining travelers security management system and related web based systems; assist Senior Director, GSS with further development and institutionalizing of related procedures;
Regularly review contents for GSS intranet webpages and closely work with the Coordinator, GSS on maintaining regular updates; maintain filing, manage timely updates of all related pre-departure documents (PDIs), emergency preparedness SOPs; review the contens of divisional Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) and phone trees, monitor timely updates of the safety and security management plans (SSMPs); provide associated trainings to SC staff and partners; contribute to regular updates of documents for new staff orientation and staff support;
Design and deliver trainings and briefings for travelers; and be available to be deployed on short notice for critical incident response and as a member of humanitarian response team;
Assist Senior Director, GSS with reports and perform other duties as needed.
Safety and Security Information Management and Networking (20%)
Develop and maintain further effective information exchange network, review related open sources, subscription reports, internal and external reports via partners and interagency channels and other available information;
Analyze documents and share analysis and insights with GSS team;
Assist the Senior Director, GSS by serving as a focal and liaison person with GSS partners and related interagency networks, including InterAction, UNDSS, etc.; attend related meetings with partners and SC business teams, maintain updated partners and SC Global Security Team’s members contact information, incl. Safety and Security Focal Persons (SSFPs), provide related briefings and reports to GSS team.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree or equivalent, plus at least three (3) years of relevant experience
Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels
Proven analytical, organizational and multi-tasking abilities
Demonstrated ability to successfully interpret and follow established policies and guidances, translating into proven successes in working both independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated professional communication and training skills
Proven exposure and experience with the communication and delivery of policies, practices, and procedures
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, capture assessment detail, accurately record data, maintain effective time management, conscientious follow-up
Willingness and ability to travel away from home, often to remote programmatic sites and insecure locations worldwide for up to 3 weeks per annum and on short notice
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the analysis of security threats, risks, trends and vulnerability in international field setting.
Experience in international development, humanitarian relief or related field (preferably rapid response and development experience, particularly in the areas of safety and security management and crisis management in insecure and complex environments).
Knowledge of grant management and donor security concerns
