Purpose of the Role:
The general objective of this position is to mitigate the risks to which SCI BFA programs, personnel and assets are exposed by providing specialized, coordinated and targeted support for security management. By working with the SSM (Safety & Security Director), this role will help in the management of safety and security in the field. This role will consist of providing advice, coordination and support in matters of security to all personnel deployed in the areas of intervention of the ATWA project.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the incumbent will need to work outside of the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
Qualifications and Experiences:
Bachelor in Human Security or related field
Formal security qualification or advanced security management training
Demonstrated level of understanding of the philosophy and modus operandi of NGOs
Minimum of 3 years of field experience in complex and insecure environments, preferably in more than one country with large teams of staff.
Experience in incident reporting, incident mapping, intelligence gathering and analysis, setting up and running an incident alert system (guard system), compilation of safety reports and assessments
Strong analytical skills and creativity to develop the role of security in programs and ensure the most effective support to line managers.
Ability to balance the demands of beneficiaries and security actors while maintaining appropriate contextual security coordination and guidance from NGOs.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including influence, negotiation and coaching.
Ability to present complex information in a succinct and persuasive manner
Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a large workload made up of complex and diverse tasks and responsibilities.
Ability and willingness to radically change work practices and hours, and to work with relief teams in the event of an emergency.
Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments
Proficiency in Internet and Microsoft Office systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other database and mapping systems.
Fluency in French, both written and oral, essential and knowledge of English desirable.
Experience in the Sahel region
