Security Sector Reform Officer, UNSOM, Somalia (equivalent to P4)

The Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) is the authority for peace, security and development. FBA works with international peace efforts and development cooperation. The agency conducts training, research and method development to support peace and state-building in conflict and post-conflict countries. We also contribute civilian personnel and expertise to peace and election observation efforts led by the EU, the UN and the OSCE. The authority is named after Folke Bernadotte, the UN's first mediator.

Are you interested in working internationally and want to be part of the agency's contribution to promoting peace and security in our world? The FBA is now seeking a Security Sector Reform Officer for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Due to covid-19, the service will be started remotely. Deployment to Mogadishu takes place when the operation approves it.

Mogadishu is a so-called non-family duty station, which means that families cannot be brought. On site in Mogadishu you live at the UN camp.

In addition to 30 days holiday per year, after posting to Mogadishu you will be covered by the UN Rest and Recovery Plan, which currently means 5 days additional leave after 28 days on site.

Information about the effort

Almost all of the world's independent nations are members of the UN, including Sweden. One of the main purposes of the UN is to preserve international peace and security. Part of this is the UN's peace efforts that are in place in conflict-affected countries around the world, and to which the FBA continuously contributes civilian Swedish personnel. Basic requirements for the service

To become relevant for the position, you must meet the basic requirements that apply to all our assignments abroad. Among other things, you need to be registered in Sweden, have a driving license for a car and good knowledge of Swedish and English. The basic requirements in their entirety can be found here .

Our employer offer

You will be employed by FBA, but seconded to another organization that will lead you . You are still registered in Sweden during your service abroad, pay tax in Sweden and are covered by Swedish social insurance.
