Specialist (m/f/d) Security Risk Management

Job description

The Risk Management Office Somalia is one of the rare Risk Management systems within GIZ, that is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development with own project funds. The project aims at creating the preconditions to minimize the current and potential security risks of GIZ staff and to ensure the secure implementation of GIZ projects throughout Somalia. The project’s main office is located in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

Your tasks

Providing specific analysis products as required by the project commission and stakeholders
Analysing security incidents throughout the specific assigned duty stations
Advising and overseeing the running and operations of specific duty stations (tbd)
Assisting in the establishment of new areas of operations, to include developing appropriate security concepts and expansion of GIZ’s current operational framework
Support the Project Manager and Senior Security and Risk Management Advisor in the ongoing process of developing context appropriate security concepts
Supporting in the updating and developing appropriate procedures to include but not limited to, existing emergency procedures; preparing risk assessments, as required while ensuring staff members and consultants in the assigned duty stations are informed of the security situation and implement directives to safeguard employees
Liaising with a range of actors, local and national authorities as well as international state and non-state actors

Your profile

University Degree in social science, political science, risk, crisis and disaster management, project management, security management or an associated area
Several years of experience in security or risk management, as well as relevant working experience in a fragile environment, preferably in Horn of Africa or the Near/Middle East
You command an in-depth knowledge of political and socio-economic analysis methodology, an extensive existing regional network is high desirable
Experience in the field of development cooperation or professional experience in development, humanitarian or international organizations in a similar role
High political sensitivity and a confident and diplomatic appearance both in international specialist bodies and at the highest political level
Quick comprehension, service- and result-oriented independent working style even under time pressure as well as good priority setting, flexibility, discretion and a high degree of loyalty

Fluency in English; while German is highly desired
