Organizational Setting
The two posts are located in the Security Services of the Logistics Services at FAO Headquarters in Rome and at Palazzo Blumensthil where the GFCM is located. The Security Services aim to assure a safe and secure operating environment and ensure continuity of operations in FAO headquarters and in the field, by protecting the integrity of premises and assets and the security of staff members and other subjects present in the FAO premises from harmful acts and accidents or natural and technological hazards.
Main Purpose
The Security Guard performs a limited variety of routine duties that contribute to the safety of staff, visitors, assets and premises at FAO Headquarters and at Palazzo Blumensthil where the GFCM is located.
Supervision Received/Exercised
The Security Guard works under the overall guidance of the Chief, Security Services and the direct supervision of a Security Officer. When applicable, he/she receives guidance on a daily basis by the Security Supervisor (Lieutenant). Supervision received provides close guidance and support.
Working Relationships
The Security Guard has frequent contacts with staff/non-staff, visitors and immediate colleagues while following technical and administrative security procedures.
Key Functions/Results
Control entry and ensure security of the organizational premises and staff;
Undertake routine patrols of assigned areas, maintaining continual surveillance against fire, water leakage and any other occurrence which might damage premises or staff and keep up to date records of patrols;
Open and close buildings; check that all office machines, air conditioners, lights etc. are turned off after working hours;
Investigate and report on all incidents on organization premises that involve a breach of security procedures, injuries or theft and report back to supervisor;
In case of incidents or emergencies on the organization’s premises, instruct staff and visitors of security procedures including fire control procedures and evacuation where necessary and ensure the physical security of premises and staff;
Issue building passes and parking permits;
Respond to enquiries and provide appropriate information or suggests alternative sources of information;
Be responsible for “Lost/Found” by either supplying information or issuing relevant receipt; interact as necessary with police authorities, local administration, fire services and other emergency services;
Perform other related duties as required.
Impact Of Work
The Security Guard participates as part of a team in the provision of routine security support services. Actions affect the immediate clients served. The impact of work usually does not go beyond the individual work assignment.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Education: Secondary School Education
Experience: Two years of experience with a national or international police force, armed forces, a private security organization, fire brigade or security service of a large organization, or in a position requiring high security, confidentiality and total integrity
Languages: Working knowledge (Level C) of English and Italian
IT Skills: Basic knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment
