Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required while working on projects and other locations in Afghanistan. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.
Working Environment: The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with traveling to and working on such sites.
Work Schedule: This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum, is on-call 24/7 and must be willing to quickly respond to all critical issues as required.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Custodian duties and responsibilities include at a minimum:
Responsible for Housekeeping, Grounds Maintenance, Laundry, Gardening, and Billeting Services.
Cleans embassy office areas, conference rooms, special purpose areas, break areas, bathrooms and toilets, lobbies, corridors, stairways, floors, walls, doors and the interior side of windows.
Responsible for collecting trash and removing from buildings, replenishment of toilet supplies.
Operates industrial standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, waxers, polishers and carpet shampooers.
Operates industrial standard Washer and Dryers for Laundry service
Performs normal custodial services during regular embassy working hours, but work schedule may be modified according to the requirements of the operations.
Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the customers and established custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects.
Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.
Evaluates new custodial supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use.
Advises the immediate supervisor on the condition of the buildings and facilities by conducting regular inspections of those areas and reporting the results of the inspections with particular emphasis on needed repairs.
Performs daily custodial duties as needed in support of the departmental mission.
Provides continuity of custodial services under emergency conditions or unique circumstances by performing custodial duties directly related to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.
Remains competent and current by attending training and/or courses required by the immediate supervisor.
Contributes to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Responsible to perform all required daily cleaning requirements.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma or GED. Customer service or hospitality field experience is a plus but not required.
He/she will take initiative and ingenuity to analyze a situation and to make frequent decisions based on DOS and PAE policies and regulations.
Must be able to lift and carry fifty pounds. Prior overseas experience is highly desirable. Special consideration given with work experience involving multi-national workforce.
Previous overseas is desirable and experience working in a desert environment is a plus.
Able to communicate (both written and oral) effectively in English.
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Language Requirement:
Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English including reading and using English language building diagrams and technical manuals.
Must have proficient English oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management and the client.
