Job description
GIZ’s security risk management (SRM) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) is designed to minimize the security risks faced by employees during their assignments, while simultaneously ensuring that they are able to move and work freely, taking into account the security situation in the country. SRM – including the analysis and assessment of security risks and the necessary technical measures – aims to ensure the physical and mental integrity of staff, and to assist them in carrying out their international cooperation work safely in a volatile environment. This position reports to the Senior SRMA in Kinshasa.

Your tasks
Implement and further develop a professional safety risk management and its adaptation to regional conditions
Collect and evaluate security-relevant information in the context of development cooperation
Analyze the security situation at existing and potential project locations
Prepare contingency plans, regional profiles, incident reports, as well as risk, conflict and actor analyses and other research materials
Support the daily operational security risk management and emergency responses
Communicate with a variety of governmental and non-governmental actors
Distribute information and advice to employees on the security situation
Support the coordination of communication, including satellite and radio communications

Your profile
University degree (Master’s or Diploma) in security and risk management, political or social sciences, peace and conflict research, modern history, or a comparable subject; Depending on the focus of your professional training, additional training in SRM or crisis management is also desirable
Many years of relevant professional experience in civic SRM in the context of development cooperation, ideally in crisis regions and a sound knowledge of political and socio-economic analyses as well as access to information networks
Experience in crisis management and in establishing and implementing security strategies, as well as a detailed understanding of (and experience with implementing) protection strategies and building security measures
Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, solid work organization skills and the ability to produce good results under pressure
Resilience, a calm demeanour and the capacity to make decisions in critical situations, as well as a strong ability to cope with stress and continue working during a crisis and a high level of frustration tolerance
Communication and negotiation skills that can be applied in both a national and international context as well as a strong sense of service and customer orientation as well as the ability to adjust to new contexts quickly and independently
Proficiency in using MS Office products (including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, MS Power BI Office 365) and communication technologies (VHF/UHF radio, satellite telecommunications, etc.) as well as knowledge concerning the use of GIS software, as well as an understanding of how to use positioning systems (Sat/GSM)
Strong English and French language; An understanding of German is helpful
