Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  
The British Embassy in Riyadh and the British Consulate General in Jeddah has a vacancy for two (2) Post Security Managers to be based in Riyadh and in Jeddah.

The jobholders will be responsible to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) for the physical and protective security of the safety and security of staff and families at the British Embassy/ Consulate General and properties on the Estate. The role will involve the management of an established and capable team. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to give clear, concise advice on a range of security topics, commensurate with their position, as per policy and procedure. This role is open to both male and female candidates.


Duties and responsibilities:

Management of a Security Team who are responsible for security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles; monitoring of CCTV; operating UHF radio network; patrolling; and security regulations.
Management of Security Team shift roster. Ensure that guard schedules and rosters are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Management of learning and development of the Security Team.
Conduct regular reviews of security policy and recommend amendments or updates to the ROSM.
Management of security equipment to include inventory checks, planned maintenance and testing schedules, and correct use or deployment of the equipment.
Local staff clearance - Conduct all local staff security vetting/ clearances, ensuring all mandatory checks are completed in line with FCO guidance and policy, liaising with UK Security Vetting/ ROSM/ Post Security Officer (PSO) and Personnel Security Team, and storing records appropriately.
Residential property security surveys - Review and maintain the physical security of the Estate, identifying and dealing with issues quickly and effectively.
Management of security exercises, drills and alarm tests. Ensure that regular security incident drills are conducted and that all staff are adequately briefed on procedures.
Regular written and oral communication to staff on security issues and providing all stakeholders with relevant, quick, and well-calibrated advice, escalating issues of concern accordingly.
Assisting on visits and events, including occasional field deployments.
Build and maintain strong and effective networks and relationships with key contacts outside of the Embassy/ Consulate General with a particular focus on other diplomatic missions, security professionals, and security organisations. Liaise with diplomatic and local police on protective security issues.
Dealing with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm, disciplined manner as part of a team, including exercises and learning and development to understand policy and procedures.
Other relevant tasks as detailed by the ROSM, including participating in the Embassy’s/ Consulate General’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience 
Previous work experience in a police, military, or commercial or diplomatic security background for a minimum of three years and with checkable references.
Knowledge of security policy and procedures.
Ability to think rationally and take decisive action when under pressure and during challenging situations.
Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative and manage others
Excellent event planning and management skills.
Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
Collaborative approach to colleague and stakeholder partnerships. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effective working relationships.
Local geographical knowledge.
Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

Arabic language skills, written and verbal.
Formal security related training qualification.
Experience of security risk management.
Membership in security industry professional bodies (ASIS, Security Institute).
Previous experience of working for Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) or understanding of UK government structures and processes.

Salary details:

Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 8,365.41
Housing Allowance - SAR 2,091.35 (subject to eligibility)*
Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*
*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The jobholder should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), especially during events and visits.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Eligibility:
The position is available to Saudi nationals and to holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. Successful candidates will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.
