Position Summary

The safety and security of Americares staff worldwide, as well as travelers and partners, is of utmost concern to the organization.  Recognizing the challenges of implementing programs across the globe with varying risk levels, Americares seeks a Global Safety and Security Program Manager to manage traveler safety and security, support safety and security of field operations, deliver regular training and promote a culture of safety and security within the organization—enhancing, maintaining, and implementing well-adhered to protocols, briefings, traveler tracking, and incident support . The position will be based in Stamford, CT with periodic travel. The position will report to the Vice President of Risk Management, Legal & Compliance.

 Duties and Responsibilities:
Refresh, and as necessary design, policies, procedures, protocols, process and templates to enhance safety and security at all levels across the organization

Monitor the global security environment to assess impact on Americares staff, offices, and programs, and provide guidance accordingly
Manage traveler safety and security, spanning situational awareness, pre-travel briefings, travel tracking, training, and compliance with internal travel processes around safety and security
Understand current insurance policies and procedures supporting staff travel, safety and incident management and able to train appropriate staff on the coverage, details and process
Manage an incident reporting system, applying an analytical framework to incident data
Evaluate available training resources for staff or develop/conduct training programs to build security and emergency management skills of Americares staff and travelers
Conduct risk assessments in priority countries and identify ways to assess risk in others field operations, ensuring risk assessments are routinely performed
In consultation with country program directors, develop, review and revise, as necessary, field office safety and security manuals based on risk assessments; and maintain HQ repository of plans
Assess, test and maintain emergency communication protocols and availability of appropriate communications technology; update the emergency communication contact list; and orient staff to emergency communication procedures and technology
Maintain contacts and relationships with appropriate international agencies, embassies and other official security resources, and liaise with other NGO security managers and working groups, such as OSAC and Interaction Security Advisory Group
Continuously strengthen safety and security policies, protocols and guidelines in consultation with senior leadership, country program directors, and key staff
Contribute to strategy, proposal development and provide reports at routine meetings and as requested
 Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, plus five years of experience working in challenging environments overseas in security management and experience working in an international non-governmental organization (NGO)
Proven experience establishing security management systems and training staff
In-depth knowledge of security requirements as they relate to international humanitarian aid and development programs and excellent understanding of importance of working with local partners in their environments (risk mitigation vs risk aversion approach)
Excellent judgement and strong problem solving skills, with demonstrated ability to apply creative solutions, work effectively in highly fluid and stressful circumstances
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, relationship building skills and ability to achieve results without direct reporting relationships
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to present a polished, professional and diplomatic image to all stakeholders
Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
Fluency in English, with working knowledge of a second language (Spanish, French or Arabic) highly desirable
Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to countries with security risks
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
