The Senior Risk Advisor position sits within our dynamic and growing risk advisory team. The position is based in the UK, near Brighton, but will require regular work in client offices in London, across the UK and overseas.

The ideal applicant will be an experienced security risk management professional who is confident to work at all organisational levels. The successful applicant’s primary activity will be to engage directly with ILS’ clients by providing security risk management advice and training, with the objective of supporting our clients to fulfil the appropriate level of Duty of Care for their staff, assets, programmes, reputation and risk appetite.


This will involve working with clients as an account manager and risk advisor on a retained and project basis and will include: the design and delivery of security risk management frameworks; advising clients and their Boards of Directors on specific risks and risk reduction strategies; conducting safety and security reviews in the UK and overseas; delivering context, threat and risk assessments; and providing guidance in crisis management situations and developing and delivering training.

Essential requirements
A minimum of three years of experience of working in insecure environments as a security risk advisor at either national or regional levels, ideally with an international NGO.
Experience of operating in conflict or post-conflict environments.
Familiarity with security risk management principles and practices.
A good understanding of legal, moral and contractual duty of care requirements.
Critical incident and crisis management experience.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce concise and succinct reports.
Willing to work flexibly as part of a close team.
Fluent in English.
High levels of IT literacy.

Desirable requirements
A graduate, ideally post-graduate degree qualification in security risk management, humanitarian or development practice, international relations or a similar field.
French, Spanish or Arabic language skills.
Digital and information security knowledge.
Experience of working in a commercial consultancy or account management role.
