Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan with duty station in Kabul. Under the overall supervision of the Principal Security Advisor (PSA), the Security Officer FS-4 reports to the Deputy Chief Security Officer (CSO) through the Chief Support Operations.

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer, FS-4, may be responsible for the following duties:

• Assists the PSA/CSO/DCSO/Security Coordination Officers in the supervision of a Security Unit, as assigned;
• Drafts and updates security contingency plans for Security Unit.
• Monitors prevailing local security conditions and trends and advises UN personnel, project personnel and eligible dependents on security issues;
• Monitors air, land and sea emergency evacuation capability; conducts evacuation exercises;
• Assists in the evaluation accessible areas, maintain tracking systems and assist in the coordination of a 24-hour Emergency Response System;
• Contributes to security risk assessments for the area of operations;
• Monitors or conducts security operations;
• Assists in the management of the Guard Force and Premises Security
• Assists senior Officers in briefing to the DCSO and Chief Support Operations on the status, activity and requirements of the unit;
• Assist in the preparation, monitoring and implementation of all activities related to Security Section budgets in consultation with the DCSO and Chief Support Operations
• Prepare staffing justification, requirement of security services for the mission and budgetary need for Security Training and Travel.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education

•High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate.Work Experience
•A minimum of six years with high school diploma of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management is required.
•At least two years of experience and exposure at the international level in a conflict/post conflict or high-risk environment is required.
•Desirable experience: Experience working in different units in the Security Administration, Logistics and Support Pillar in medium/large UN missions is an asset.
•Completion of applicable UMOJA training is desirable.
Other:
•UN DSS certification in any of the following is an asset: Security Certification Program (SCP), Security Analysis Practice and Process (SAPP) is an advantage

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required
