Main purpose of job:
To ensure FCO security strategy and policy is adhered to and any appropriate mitigation has been properly approved in order to ensure the safety of staff, documents and equipment at Post as well as to safeguard the physical and protective security of the mission and staff residential properties. To provide policy advice, guidance and support on all aspects of security

Roles and responsibilities:
Physical Security of the UK Mission, BCG offices and Main Residences. Ensuring that both Posts
and the residences are safe and secure. Duties include: continuous appraisal, overview and evaluation of the safety of the two Posts; working with stakeholders in London to ensure that HM Government security regulations are followed, and recommendations following audit visits are pursued; incident control and management, including co-ordinating evacuation of the mission/s; managing and maintaining access control systems including airlock doors; administering the building pass system; ensuring the maintenance of security equipment; supervising mail screening; reporting and recording any breaches of security; keeping the Post Security Regulations up to date. 35% of time

Line Management of Deputy Post Security Manager and Oversight of Post Security Team (8 Security Officers). This includes motivating and empowering the team, organising rosters, setting objectives, writing appraisals, identifying training and development opportunities.   Security officers work a shift pattern and keeping all team members informed of developments is essential. 15% of time

Personnel Security. Includes administering the locally engaged staff security vetting procedures and conducting vetting interviews; briefing newcomers on fire safety and security matters. 15% of time

External Stakeholder Liaison. Liaison and intelligence sharing with the 17th Precinct, Diplomatic Security (state Department) and the Community Support Officers. Liaison with NYPD Intelligence, UN Security and other related Law Enforcement agencies. Liaison with visiting Protection Officers. 15% of time.

Implementing Security Processes and Recommendations. Follow up from periodic overseas security assessments, implementation of agreed to recommendations and the training out of any new security protocols and processes to all staff at post. 10% of time

Post Emergency Planning. Working with the Head of Corporate Services, maintain and test emergency plans and equipment for UKMIS and the BCG. Serve as the Deputy Fire Safety Manager by conducting weekly checks of the fire/incident alarms and quarterly evacuation drills. Prepare the agenda and essential information for, and write the minutes of, the quarterly Post Security Committee.   10% of time

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  
Essential on arrival:
Previous Security Management experience, including line management
A minimum of five years experience in either law enforcement, the military or corporate security.
IT Literate with Windows based systems.
Knowledge of electronic security systems including Access Control Systems (ACS) and CCTV.
Strong team player, flexible and able to multi-task.
Clear and confident communicator with staff and visitors at all levels.
Must be a British, US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand citizen.


Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  
Desirable:
Police or Military background.
Interview skills
Experience with managing security within an international organization
