Protective Services Security Officer - Burkina Faso, Wahgnion mine site
Summary of Role
This is a 2-year, fly-in fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Wahgnion mine site in Burkina Faso.
The Protective Services Security Officer will provide support on Teranga’s security operations. The primary purpose of the role is to provide information to assist the Protective Services Senior Supervisor and Coordinator in maintaining a safe working environment and protection of company assets including loss prevention. Since Teranga is expanding its mine sites in West Africa, this role will offer a career growth opportunity for experienced security officers.
The key function of this role is to monitor activities (via CCTV) being performed at various locations on the property with the intent of mitigating potentially dangerous situations though safety breaches and asset protection through loss. Primarily, the CCTV operations will be a proactive service rather than reactive. Although in exceptional situations will also be able to provide additional information support for crisis management and safety events. Data recording may be able to assist in reactive investigations.
The CCTV team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the master security control systems, including high and low security access controls. Exclusively, this group in a secure environment will perform basic electronic equipment repairs, upgrades to software and control programs. Specific confidentiality agreements for this role are required.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and fully utilize all mine site CCTV operating systems including monitors, cameras and recorders
Ensure fully functionality of security management systems and report defects immediately.
Ensure that upgrades and repairs are conducted within company confidentiality guidelines.
Conduct daily checks of external and internal operating systems.
Report proactively and record in a daily log all security breaches and suspicious activities in accordance with mine security procedures.
Assist and advise on the development of CCTV security procedures, equipment and deployment.
Required Skills & Experience
Qualification in Security and IT / Electronics
10+ years' experience working in the Security field with CCTV and access control systems.
Ability to maintain (hardware installation and software upgrades) and troubleshoot CCTV equipment independently
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel)
Capacity to deliver and maintain accurate documentation and reports
Work experience in isolated / remote locations for long periods of time is required
Experience working with multi-national workforce (preferably in Africa)
Proven capacity to take initiatives and problem-solving oriented
Advanced written and verbal English skills (bilingual French, an asset)
