Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Vienna is part of a global network, which represents UK political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Post Security Manager with a full-time permanent contract. As the Post Security Manager you are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all staff at and visitors to the British Embassy, UK Mission to the UN and UK Delegation to the OSCE.
You will work in close coordination with the Regional Security Manager and the Deputy Head of Mission to ensure our security procedures are robust and security guidance is followed and up to date. This will include liaising with the Austrian Authorities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Manage security staff and security procedures:
Coordinate VIP visits/Police liaison/airport collection
Ensure necessary Local Security Clearance procedures are carried out and up to date.
Ensure that all proper security arrangements are in place for visitors, guests and postal deliveries
Organise security cover for all official events
Ensure the security of incoming mail, workmen/contractors and combinations
Ensure security incident and breach procedures are carried out
Ensure compliance with security, fire safety and health and safety requirements
Ensure equipment maintained
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Management experience in the security field
Ability to work independently and under pressure
Good organizational and leadership skills with a sense of discipline and integrity
Flexibility and a willingness to work outside office hours as required
Fluent English and intermediate German language skills
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Min 2 years’ experience in a management role in the field of protective security
Required competencies
Making Effective Decisions, Leading and Communicating, Collaborating and Partnering, Managing a Quality Service

Other benefits and conditions of employment
This is a local staff position in the British Embassy Vienna; it is not a diplomatic designated position. The position is subject to the terms and conditions of British Embassy employees.
This is a full-time permanent position of 5 days per week. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 A.M to 5 P.M. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys 14 Austrian / UK public holidays per year and we are committed to ensuring a work / life balance.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they are legally able to work in Austria. The Embassy is not able to assist with any visa or sponsorship arrangements.
The monthly salary will be € 3,085 gross, payable 14 times a year.
Please note that UK nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Austrian (UK) tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process. All other nationals will receive paid their salary minus social insurance deductions and are expected to comply with Austrian tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Austrian authorities.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Austrian employment law.
Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Austria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
