Job Purpose:
The Kennel Master will ensure the EDDT report for duty equipped and prepared to accomplish all assigned functions and tasks. The KM will be informed of all significant events pertaining to the EDDT and will respond to emergency situations involving the K-9’s. Maintain constant communication and support to the Country Director.

Key Accountabilities: 
The Kennel Master manages and exercises control over the Explosive Dog Detector Teams in Afghanistan including but not limited to the following:
Supervises the kennel facility maintenance, care and feeding of the K-9’s.
Manages the administrative aspects regarding K9 in Afghanistan.
Responsible and accountable for the tactical efficiency of K9 in Afghanistan, and evaluation of proficiency and duty of performance.
Ensures that proper Medical Records are maintained.
Manage and plan the mission of each dog team, and co-ordinate the aid required to complete the mission.

Identify the threats to and vulnerabilities of personnel and resources at the location, where dog teams are deployed.
Develop and implement a comprehensive EDDT training program, ensuring that each handler is properly trained to detect and interpret their dogs’ responses to explosives.
Make appropriate provisions for the health, safety, care of assigned dogs and ensure that each handler properly cares for his assigned dog. Where the ratio of dog to handler is greater than 1 to 1 the KM will ensure all dogs are looked after appropriately.
Ensure that each handler understands the characteristics and capabilities of his dog, the basic principles of dog training and the advantages of using EDDT for operational purposes.
Obtain equipment and supplies for the K-9 section as needed.
In the event of misconduct, unsafe acts or violations of SOP by Handlers, KM will take immediately action to prevent injury or an incident. The KM has the responsibility to make determinations on the disposition (i.e. immediate relief of duty) of handlers accused of any violations until all matters regarding the incident/s is fully investigated.
Responsible for explosive training aid inventories and will physically inspect it on a random basis not to exceed seven days.
Conduct visits to each out post at regular intervals and assess the operational effectiveness of each team.
Ensure the training is carried out effectively and recorded correctly and stored on Huddle as per the IMS protocols.


JOB SPECIFIC TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL/PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:
Good communication and written skills in the English language.
Demonstrate the ability to work unsupervised and show good leadership skills.
Ability and willingness to work in hostile environments.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for processing reports.
Good knowledge of working dogs.
Competent in weapon systems (Smith + Wesson Pistol, Glock and AK 47 Weapon Series)


EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum four years’ experience as a dog handler
Minimum of two years as a K9 trainer/kennel master in a hostile environment.
Maintain a high standard of fitness and pass all company compulsory fitness tests.  Physically and Mentally Fit
