Location: South Africa (Joburg )
We are looking to employ a Head of Law Enforcement & Security (LES) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of its LES capability.
Based at its Head Office in Johannesburg, South Africa, and reporting to the COO, the primary purpose of this role will be to:
• Provide strategic guidance and oversight with regard to Law Enforcement, Counter-Poaching and Security for existing and potential future parks in the African Parks network;
• Ensure that African Parks has a well developed, fit-for-purpose LES capability in all parks;
• Develop and implement LES Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) across the network of parks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set, assure and maintain the standards for Law Enforcement, Counter-Poaching and Security
activities for the parks through the development of SOP’s ;
• Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers of equipment and consumables ;
• Advise park management on park specific LES operational strategy and infrastructure;
• Maintain and update the APN LE training curriculum;
• Oversee the African Parks intelligence capability, thereby ensuring provision of effective intelligence services to Head Office and the Parks;
• Facilitate LES grant applications, where needed;
• Conduct strategic needs assessment and design the LE concept and strategy for new parks;
• Provide emergency LES assistance and deployment to specific parks, as and when needed.
Minimum Requirements:
• Relevant university (Masters) and/or Military Academy (Officer) educational background
• More than 10 years experience at a strategic level in Law Enforcement and Security in Africa
• Team leadership capabilities with a focus on People Development
• Fluent in English and French
• Strategic thinker
• High attention to detail
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to develop and articulate a plan both on paper and orally to a senior audience
• Highly proactive, pragmatic and solution-focussed
• Excellent inter-personal skills
• Excellent communication skills
