This position is located in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Baghdad. The Close Protection Coordination Officer reports to the Principal Security Adviser through the Deputy Principal Security Adviser.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Close Protection Coordination Officer P-3 is responsible for the following duties;

•Coordinate all personal protection planning, operations and training in accordance with UN personal protection policy, guidance and standard operating procedures.
•Provide direction and guidance to close protection units, as required.
•Produce and coordinate close protection operational plans.
•Liaise with and coordinate close protection operations with the host country, other mission components and other organizations, as necessary.
•Ensure that close protection operations are conducted in accordance with UN methodology and standards.
•Prepare post-operational reports and recommendations.
•Provide risk briefings as required and coordinates close protection briefings for the Mission's principal personnel.
•Prepare security risk assessments on principal personnel.
•Coordinate close protection training and exercises to ensure that operational competencies are maintained to UN standards.
•Assess the performance of close protection personnel.
•Provide inputs related to close protection for the mission’s budget proposal.
•Perform other duties, as assigned.

Education

An advanced university degree in security management (such as Senior command or Staff qualification), or analysis of information, political/social, military science or international relations with focus on security management.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years progressive experience with military police or security management in a security organization is required.

At least five years' experience in managing multiple and diverse military, police or security units operating in conflict or post conflict environments with three years' experience and exposure at the international level is required.

Experience and proficiency in the use of close protection weapons, communications, surveillance equipment, and vehicles is required; past experience of providing close protection to one or more principal personnel; experience with static and mobile protection; experience in handling close protection command post operations; experience in applying close protection response techniques and conducting close protection training is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of Arabic is desirable.Assessment
