How can you make a difference?
Provide advice and assistance to the Regional Security Advisor on aspects of security, operations and emergency coordination throughout the region.
Monitor and analyze trends of security / political incidents that have the propensity to impact UNICEF operations, by developing early
warning indicators to be used as a decision-making planning to by Senior Regional Management.
Consolidate reporting from Country Offices and provide an analysis in the regional context, highlighting the potential impact this may
have on programme delivery. This includes support to CO’s in entering a CPD or as part of the new Emergency Preparedness Platform to
carry out risk analysis including dedicated conflict analysis to inform preparedness and response. Advise the RSA on steps needed with regard to multi-country or regional geo-security environment and key political dynamics that have the potential to impact on programme delivery.
Establish favorable working environment with UNDSS SAs, FSCOs, and UNICEF Country Emergency Officers.
Develop briefing notes for regional management on emerging issues (upon request) and provide guidance with regards to country
specific threats; prepares briefing materials such as periodic security threat information alerts, notices, warnings, and advisories on security threats for UNICEF senior management. Contribute in preparation of emergency plans for a designated country or geographic area by conducting regional and country-specific threat and risk assessments.
Identify, through field research of threat actors, the operating environment of UNICEF in liaison with internal and external security
interlocutors; Liaise with other UN Organizations on the development of security threat information.

Education:An Advanced University Degree in Social or Political Science, or a discipline related to Risk Management, International Relations, conflict analysis and resolution or equivalent formal training in security and risk management such as Military and/or Police Senior Command Staff College (9 months/ 1 year).
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience, with at least two years’ field experience of the UNSMS, proven crisis management and strong background in political and security analysis ideally in a regional context.
Demonstrated analytical experience in the Middle East and North Africa highly desirable. Analysis /information capabilities from a police / military context would be considered an asset. Experience in working in a team responding to hostage taking would be an advantage. Experience in working in crisis / humanitarian response locations enabling programme delivery is required.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
