Security Manager , South Africa

Large corporate retail facility, requires an experienced Security Manager for this demanding department. Key responsibilities will include:

Functional Requirements
Take overall responsibility for the Safety & Security in and around the facility.
Develop Security standards required across the organization. Enforce compliance with all applicable SHEQ legislation and standards.
Ensure effective management and implementation of systems and processes related to company
infrastructure and business applications to ensure standards are maintained.
Develop, monitor and adhere to Safety and Security policies.
Establish, guide and facilitate the necessary staff safety and security committees.
Conducts research and compiles information necessary to develop company policy and SOPs for the implementation and management of comprehensive Safety and Security programs for the facility.
Reviews reports, and other technical documentation, to support the needs of all departments in the areas of safety and security, including summarizing requirements and identifying deliverables for departmental response; coordinates with all departments to ensure uniform application of Safety and Security policies and practices;
Coordinates and performs on-site Safety and Security reviews.
Supports all departments within the facility by recommending training, and distributing information on all matters related to operational safety and security, as well as work site safety and security.
Develops and monitors operating budgets and coordinates purchase requirements.
Coordinates with the service providers representatives to address working conditions relative to safety and security,
Approves assignment of personnel; provides direction, verbal or written feedback, and evaluates performance of service provider
Compile related reports and implement action plans
Ensure adherence to all SHEQ policies, procedures and regulations
Conduct all necessary assessments to minimise/eliminate hazardous incidents and instil an all-round culture of safety
Manage the SHEQ data base
Train and mentor staff with assistance from Talent Officer
Custodian of all SHEQ documentation
Ensure all incidents logged on EBMS system (Safety Health Environmental & Quality)
Responsible for investigating all incidents
Develop training material and train staff in conjunction with Talent Officer
Chair all Safety Meetings
Conduct regular internal audits
Constantly conduct Risk Assessments and implement awareness programs
Record, investigate and log all incidents
Ensure open communication and training in conjunction with Talent Officer
Assist with investigation and recommendations of all insurance claims related to SHEQ
Conduct regular site inspections and reports; Safety at events solutions in accordance to the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2010
Compile an event specific Safety Plan
Ensure relevant submissions to the different municipal bodies (event specific)
Attend all JOC meetings
A dedicated Health and Safety Officer during build-up, event days and breakdown

Manage Service Level Agreements
Draft service provider’s contractual documentation.
Negotiate and finalise contracts with service providers.
Verify suppliers invoices prior processing of payment.
Address contractual disputes relating to performance and delivery.
Ensure aggressive cost savings are implemented with regards to the Security Service Contract.

People Management
Motivate, coach and manage staff towards the achievement of goals.
Provide regular upward feedback, including documented performance management.
Address poor work performance and nurture high performers.
Monitor the skills required for delivering services, develop successors, and communicate organizational and functional direction to the team.
Oversee the performance of the safety & security function and take remedial action if required.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
Must be PSIRA Grade A registered and accredited
SAMTRAC or NEBOSCH (International certificate in Occupational Health and Safety)
Specialized training in safety administration
Only open to BEEE South African citizens
Have a clear criminal record

​Required experience:
At least 10 years’ experience in the Safety and Security environment within a Head Office / Corporate environment
Minimum 5 years management experience in leading a Safety and Security function essential.
Managerial experience at a middle/senior management level essential.
Must have 3 – 5 years’ experience within Environmental Management and Health and Safety Management.
Must have knowledge on Security Service Providers and drafting of SLA’s.
Proven ability in security management, access control and other related aspects.
Experience in supervising Security, Safety, Emergencies and Crisis Management related disciplines.
Demonstrated satisfactory written and oral communication skills in prior positions with fluent command of English to effectively compose and edit technical documents;
Ability to independently research technical documents, interpret and organize data and information as required;
Ability to facilitate meetings and obtain consensus;
Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.
Crisis management and/or Risk Management role for a multinational would be highly desirable, with experience of managing the safety or risk function.
Must have valid driver’s license and own transport
