Main purpose of job:
The Deputy Security Manager will lead, set an example to and provide supervision and support to the security team in conjunction with the contractor’s Special Projects Manager and Facilities Manager in Umoja House, while reporting to the Regional Overseas Security Manager. He/she will be responsible for the day to day security of the BHC, DFID, its staff, UKB residences and all other parts of the BHC/DFID Estate. The Deputy Security Manager will also be responsible for oversight of the Post security budget, all security works carried out across the Estate and maintenance and upkeep of security equipment including radios.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Lead and manage the security team in conjunction with The Security Contractor.
Manage the local guarding contract by maintaining a good working relationship with the Special Projects Manager and oversight of the 350+ guarding staff throughout the estate.
Oversight and management of the security budget working in conjunction with the Corporate Services Manager.
Ensure that the Mission, all UKB residences and any proposed new properties conform to security specification required for the threat level of Post.
Ensure that the Mission, all UKB residences and any proposed new properties conform to fire safety specifications.
Liaise with the Corporate Services Estates team to ensure a planned schedule of works is in place. Monitor progress and actively lead in ensuring works are being progressed and prioritised appropriately.
Assist the Regional Overseas Security Manager in ensuring that all outstanding Overseas Security Advisor recommendations have been implemented and maintain a record of works completed/outstanding.
Conduct initial security briefings with staff and families and Increase awareness of staff of security issues which may impact on their ability to carry out their duties.
Prepare and present briefings for visitors, visiting officials to the High Commission and officials from other Diplomatic Missions and both public and private organisations.
Oversee production of clear, concise and effective communication to staff relating to security matters.
Maintain a good working relationship with the locally engaged security representatives of other diplomatic missions.
Liaise daily with the Facilities Manager in Umoja House and maintain a good working relationship in order to maintain and enhance the security of Umoja House.
Attend regular meetings with BHC and DFID staff to update on current security threats and related issues.
Carry out any other security related duties as directed by the Post Security Officer or Regional Overseas Security Manager.
Build a network of security contacts, including Tanzanian Police, Other diplomatic missions and business organisations so that the Deputy Security Manager is tied into the local security network and can step up in the absence of the Regional Overseas Security Manager.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Degree level education;
Experience in running a guard force in day to day duties;
Minimum of 3 years security experience gained through service in the police, armed forces or in a similar role.
Clean driving licence
Fluent in English and Kiswahili
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Similar experience with an international organisation would be an added advantage
