Cowan South Africa is recruiting a fluent Portuguese/English speaking HOD – Security/Security Managerfor this expanding international mining company, with multiple operations.
THE OPPORTUNITY
• Responsible for security of production related areas and product movement, including transportation of products; safeguarding mining assets, including both physical property and intellectual property; safeguarding the physical safety of personnel and visitors, including without limit workplace violence prevention
• Responsible for managing the Mine’s information security network, including access control systems, video surveillance, etc. Information protection responsibilities will include network security and network access
• Direct management and development of security personnel - employees and contractors
• Responsible for monitoring and development of security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance and enhancement of security at the Mine, including security-related training, education and awareness for personnel and visitors at the Mine
• Work with the Group Security Director to prioritize security initiatives and spending based on risk identification/continuous assessment
• Work with, advise and update senior management on security matters
• Prepare security budgets and monitor appropriate use of budgets
• Uphold company values regarding responsible practices and ensure, at a minimum, compliance with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and security legislation at the Mine
• Work with and maintain relationships with local and state law enforcement and other related government agencies to optimise security considerations
• Oversee incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches and assist with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches as necessary
• Work with outside consultants as appropriate for independent security audits and other security considerations
YOU ARE
• Currently or recently employed in a similar role
• Fluent Portuguese/English speaking (speak/read & write - non-negotiable)
YOU BRING
• At least 7 years’ management experience in direct security operations within the private mining sector. Proven management experience in multi-national environments and in managing a team of security professionals, including contracted private security personnel
• Experience with business continuity planning, auditing and risk management, as well as contract and vendor negotiation. Experience working alongside public security force personnel in developing areas
• Prior law enforcement, military or intelligence background useful. Advanced understanding of risk management, security best practices and compliance within the security sector
• Sound analytical and evaluation skills. Articulate and able to communicate security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to keep abreast of developments in security and surveillance and how to implement them in accordance with local law considerations. Sound knowledge of DMS /HMS/ plants. Sound knowledge of Sort Houses, Wash Plants, Production Exporting process
• High degree of integrity with strong professional approach. Ability to remain calm under pressure, keeping emotions under control during difficult situations. Credibility as a security professional with the ability to conceptualize but also sell the concepts to the organisation. Thrive within a broad, multi-national team with a mix of cultures and backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills. A strong work ethic, accustomed to long working hours and readiness to work outside of normal working hours, particularly in times of emergency. The capability to develop new and creative ideas. Clean Criminal Record. Able to work in a tropical climate, away from home
