Are you passionate about ensuring staff and communities are safe throughout the delivery of humanitarian and development programmes?

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our newly formed East and Central Africa Region for a Safety & Security Coordinator based in the ECA region.

The successful candidate will have proven experience advising and managing safety and security at the regional level or across several countries covering highly insecure and volatile contexts within the INGO sector. You will be able to provide strong and clear advice and recommendations to key decision makers, and assist teams in strengthening their team security planning and implementation of those plans, as well as facilitate drills, exercises and workshops to build team awareness and capacity, working alongside the ECA lead and country leads, in country security managers, and in conjunction with the International Safety and Security team.

It is essential that the successful candidate has considerable experience engaging with the NGO and UN Cluster system and is able to rapidly familiarize themselves with the various information sources available. The candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, ability to work across a diverse teams, be a strong influencer, creative problem solver and demonstrate experience in capturing learning. A working knowledge of the French language would be highly advantageous. Experience in delivering team capacity building and promoting a positive culture of effective safety and security risk management is essential.

All posts involve potential contact with children and the recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding issues.

Please note: This role requires frequent travel of up to 20 weeks a year to the following countries: The Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi. It is essential that the successful candidate will have the ability to travel to all 6 countries.

The successful candidate will need to have the right to live and work in Rwanda.
