ARK seeks an experienced and dynamic Head of Security and Risk to manage all Corporate risks, develop and implement policies and procedures, and to oversee security and risk for our expanding programmes globally. The Head of Security & Risk will provide leadership and oversight of security and risk on behalf of the CEO for all ARK Group’s operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage ARK Group’s Corporate Risk Register including regularly reviewing all risks, developing and implementing effective treatments and mitigations, and briefing key stakeholders as part of the Senior Management Team.
Review and develop ARK Group’s Risk and Security Management policies and procedures, provide training to all staff on implementing policies and procedures and provide oversight of implementation of the ARK Group Security System.
Work with the Senior Management Team and CEO to develop Business Continuity planning in response to identified risks. Conduct routine security and risk testing to identify weaknesses and develop mitigations.
Provide guidance and training to Programme and Project Managers and Manager of Country Offices to support them to manage risks and security.
Identify safety and security equipment requirements for all projects as applicable, working with delivery teams and operational support functions to procure and manage equipment inventories and provide prerequisite training for users.
Identify training requirements across ARK Group and develop and implement training, either through delivering in-house training or identifying suitable external training providers including conducting due diligence and quality assurance on trainers, delivery and training content.
Coordinate risk assessments and develop country-specific risk-management plans, including potential reconnaissance, for all new operational geographies for ARK Group.
Review and develop country security plans for each country in which ARK Group has an office location in coordination with the relevant Head of Office. This will include assessments of office locations, health and safety, equipment, training and critical incident response plans.
Review ARK Group’s insurance policies and Critical Incident Response and ensure they are comprehensive in order mitigate risks identified in Corporate, Country and Project risk registers. Report to the Senior Management Team any vulnerabilities and recommended actions.
Work with Human Resources to ensure all staff are appropriately trained for their role, including reviewing training logs, arranging refresher training, planning and identifying additional training courses as appropriate.
Provide assurance to the Senior Management Team that ARK Group are meeting its duty of care requirements for staff, partners, consultants and beneficiaries.
Review and improve ARK Group’s Critical Incident Response procedures and act as the Critical Incident Response coordinator on behalf of the CEO and Senior Management Team for all critical incidents.
Identify and conduct due diligence on and procure the services of suitable security providers if appropriate for any ARK Group operational requirement.
Coordinate with the Head of IT Services to ensure that Information Security is integrated into the overall security framework.
Support ARK Group business development activities through providing advice in project design and planning phases and responsibility for the security, risk and duty of care sections of all proposals.
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 10 years of progressively senior management experience in a security or risk role, including as a Head of Security and Risk, preferably in a development, stabilisation or humanitarian context in conflict zones or fragile states. Experience of government (including the military or police) welcomed but not a prerequisite.
Expertise in risk analysis and management in insecure environments.
Proven track record of managing critical incidents in complex environments.
Experience designing and delivering security and risk training.
Ability to write and brief in English to a professional standard.
Exceptional leadership, emotional intelligence, and management skills with experience working with diverse and dynamic teams in an international context, often remotely.
Willingness and experience to travel to conflict and fragile states with limited operational support.
Above all else: enthusiasm, a willingness to get stuck in, integrity, resilience and a focus on duty of care to staff, partners and beneficiaries and a commitment to positive change for those living in insecure and conflict-affected environments.
