Job description

Minimising risks to our staff is the highest priority. In order to achieve this, GIZ implements in its partner countries, in particular in countries with high risks, professional risk management
systems. Risk Management Advisors contribute to the safety of our staff and operations and thereby support the successful implementation of development programmes and cooperation
Your tasks

Your task as a Senior Risk Management Advisor (SRMA) is to maintain and further develop a professional SRM system in order to adapt it to the local/regional context.
Therefore, you continuously analyse the security situation at your location/region in general and at project implementation sites in particular. You collect and evaluate relevant information on the local situation and transfer results to the context of development cooperation;
You develop conflict and actor analyses, regular situation reports, district profiles and further research documents, in particular incident reports;
In addition, you are responsible for all aspects of everyday SRM operations in a volatile risk environment, including potential emergency and evacuation scenarios;
Furthermore, you maintain liaison to multiple actors such as local and national authorities as well as international government and non-government organizations;
Additionally, you inform employees about changes in the security situation and implement directives for the protection of staff;
In case of emergency, you support the country director in crisis management. Advice regarding the risk of GIZ infrastructure is also part of your task profile.

You profile

In addition to a relevant university degree in security risk management, crisis management, regional studies, political science or similar, you have several years of professional experience in risk management in the context of development or humanitarian work in conflict/crisis/fragile environments;
Profound experience in developing and implementing concepts for managing local risks in this context is a must;
A military or police background is neither necessary nor sufficient but might be considered if in combination with relevant work experience in the field of risk management;
Sound knowledge of the main actors and processes within the German development cooperation, especially in fragile and/or violent contexts are required;
Furthermore, you combine sound analytical skills with the ability to present complex information in an easily digestible way. You are working in a systematic and independent manner with little guidance. Under pressure or in critical situations, you are able to take decisions and ensure their implementation;
Moreover, with your excellent communication and advisory skills you are able to convince internal and external stakeholders of the importance of risk management in your work context.

Location information

The risk situation in Sudan is tense. It requires continuous attention and precaution measures for GIZ employees.

GIZ maintains a professional risk management system in Sudan.

The position is based in Khartoum, but requires regular travel to remote and (post-) conflict areas in Sudan, particularly to Eastern Sudan and Darfur. The weather in Khartoum is hot and dry. The health facilities are considered good, and both specialized and general hospitals are available. Good quality housing is available; there is an international school, some shopping malls, international restaurants and some sport facilities.
Notes

The salary package includes an attractive annual salary, as well as different allowances (e.g. travel and housing). In addition, we offer you the necessary training to equip you for the position, including risk and stress management trainings. You will also participate in a one week qualification course on GIZ risk management.
