Humanitarian Support Personnel - Security Officer

Interview process will take place during the period 27th August - 6th September 2018. Successful candidates will initially be asked to undertake a written exercise. Dependent on the outcome of this would then be invited to attend an interview.

Salary: £27,963 - £37,095 (Net = take home pay. Oxfam will meet the tax and social security liabilities of post-holder in addition to net salary).

Oxfam offers a wide range of benefits, including over 43 days holiday/TOIL per year, pension and medical cover, living and accommodation costs covered during deployments.

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contracts - one year

Required number: Two positions

Hours: 36 hr/week

Location: Home based with deployments worldwide from your home country. You must be prepared to travel at short notice to emergency response countries (deployments are normally 3-6 months). This post includes extensive travel, up to eight months of the year.

About the Role

As a member of Oxfam’s Global Humanitarian Team, the post holder will work together with the Global Security Team, including Global and Regional Security Advisors. The successful candidates will undertake a series of assignments mainly in a country or region for which specific Terms of Reference will be negotiated and agreed with relevant parties, prior to deployment and or revised in the early stages of the deployment.

Assignments can include the following responsibilities, although these may be amended or added to as agreed;

To carry out security assessments and security management reviews in locations Oxfam is working or is considering working; either providing management with recommendations for action or working directly to implement the action plan

To provide expert advice on security related matters in the context of a particular environment including: gathering information from other organisations and institutions, and representing Oxfam in security meetings with other agencies, institutions and authorities.

To assist managers in developing high quality security management systems in line with Oxfam security policy and security management approach etc.

About the person

We are looking for someone with significant and practical security management, conducting security assessments and the planning and implementation of security procedures in the context of NGO or UN humanitarian operations. You should also have experience of delivering field based training and have very good spoken and written English language skills. French is desirable. You will need to be willing to be deployed anywhere in the world, at short notice, to offer security management support to Oxfam programmes, often under challenging circumstances.
