The role:

The Safety and Security Advisor is a short-term position to directly support the start-up of the DFAT funded Australian Humanitarian Partnership Iraq activation.

The Advisor will be responsible for setting up specific project related safety and security systems for the consortium of Save the Children Australia, Save the Children Iraq, CARE International, Handicap International (HI) and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).

The Advisor will:

1 In consultation with the consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group coordinate and map safety and security plans, systems and needs assessments to build a safety and security profile for the project sites. 2 In consultation and coordination with consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group and external agencies (eg INSO) undertake safety and security risk assessments in Al-Hawija and Sinjar Districts 3 In consultation and coordination with consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group develop or harmonise existing agency safety and security mechanisms including MOSS on Facility Safety & Security measures, tools and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for the project 4 In consultation and coordination with consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group prepare and deliver safety and security seminar to socialise - and amend where necessary - the safety and security SOP's to consortium partners 5 In consultation and coordination with consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group prepare the trainings need assessment of all project staff

In consultation and coordination with consortium Safety and Security Strategic Working Group prepare Business continuity and Contingency PlansThe Safety and Security Advisor will be responsible for ensuring that Safety and Security SOP's are embedded into the ways of working of the consortium.

Essential Technical Skills:
Significant experience of working in conflict and hostile environments in a safety and security function
Practical experience of designing and developing safety and security SOP's in conflict and hostile environments
Experience of designing and implementing safety and security assessments in conflict and hostile environments
Experience of, and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability (including child participation)
Experience of leading lessons learned activities and putting into practice recommendations generated from these types of activities
Previous experience of working in a consortium or coordinating with multiple agencies
Experience of representation in external forums.
Desirable: Experience of working in remote settings preferably in Iraq and/or the Middle East

Contract length: 3 Months
