Project Officer - Internal Security

The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position ofProject Officer – Internal Security, Grade – B3 (L). 

Purpose of the job:
This is an exciting maternity cover position helping to deliver the UK Government’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF). Based in the Embassy’s CSSF Team, which implements programmes totalling around £30m per year, you will manage delivery of UK projects to enhance security in Jordan.

Main Responsibilities:
• Co-management (with the Internal Security Programme Manager) of £8m of internal security projects, including managing implementing partners, monitoring and evaluation, ensuring value for money, risk management, and communications
• Identifying, recommending, and implementing improvements so that projects deliver the greatest possible benefits for Jordan and the UK
• Scrutiny of financial information received from implementers, leading on financial meetings, and resolving problems to ensure effective spend
• Organising and attending project-related events, encouraging experience-sharing between project partners, and staying abreast of research and developments on internal security
• Coordinating with other donors and the international community, and engagement with key Jordanian Government and civil society stakeholders
• Persuasive engagement with British Embassy and UK Government colleagues, including senior officials such as the Ambassador, to ensure the successful delivery of our security partnership with Jordan
• Translate official letters from English into Arabic and vice versa, Interpretation during meetings with governmental and security officials.
• Build and manage a strong relationship with the Jordanian security agencies
• Respond flexibly and actively to evolving priorities and needs

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
• Fluent oral and written English and Arabic
• A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a relevant field
• Minimum two years’ experience of successfully delivering programmes/projects in an international political/development context, preferably in a bilateral or multilateral aid agency
• Candidates should be highly organised and able to work in a diverse, high-performing environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build productive working relations with project implementers and wider stakeholders
• Proven ability to take responsibility for own work, with a track record as a team player
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills are required to deliver projects in a dynamic environment
• Experience of managing budgets and working with financial information.
• Literacy in Microsoft Office packages.
 
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
• Knowledge of Jordanian politics and society, and of Jordan’s security sector
• Experience working on policing and/or security-related issues.
