Site Safety and Health Officer

Essential Job Functions:

Fully understands, supports, monitors and instills in supervisors, leads, and employees the principles of the safety Program in the workplace.
Monitors federal, state, regional, and local safety regulations.
Reviews, updates, and/or develops and implements safety policies and programs as required and in coordination with IAP’s Safety Director.
Reviews and prepares incident/accident report to determine cause and adjust current procedures to prevent future recurrences.
Reviews employee qualifications to ensure all legal and contractual safety requirements are being met and coordinates initial or refresher qualification training as required.
Performs and/or coordinates safety training.
Determines countermeasures when noise, chemical levels, etc. exceed permissible exposure levels.
Works with functional area managers and supervisors to correct findings discovered during inspections.
Inspect facilities for safety and environmental violations.
Assists functional managers and supervisors in conducting job hazard analysis.
Performs accident investigations as necessary and provides recommendations for corrective actions.
Reviews Worker’s Compensation cases.
Prepares briefings for General Manager and functional area managers on safety-sensitive issues.
Prepares and provides timely reports of all recordable accidents and incidents to the state and federal Government as necessary.
Conducts and/or coordinates new-hire Safety orientation.
Acts as project’s Duty Manager for multiple installation coverage, directing after hours, weekend, and holiday work requirements on a rotational basis.



.Required Skills

Knowledge & Skills:

The SSHO shall have completed the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health related coursework every four years

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in safety engineering or equivalent experience with major related to job duties, with five (5) years’ experience as Safety and Health officer.
Training, experience, and qualifications shall be as required by EM 385-1-1 paragraph 01.A.17, entitled SITE SAFETY AND HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO), and all associated subparagraphs.


Licenses & Certifications:
OSHA safety certification is required (The SSHO must meet the requirements of EM 385-1-1 Section 1).

Required Experience

Must have five (5) years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past, OR three (3) years of experience if they possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential or safety and health degree.
