Country Safety and Security Director

Role Purpose:
The Country Safety and Security Director will work to reduce the risks posed to the programs, personnel and assets of to Save the Children International in South Sudan. The role will manage all aspects of Safety and Security building understanding and ownership of the Safety and Security Protocols whilst providing advice and coordination to all Save the Children staff (national and international) and visitors.

The Country Safety and Security Director (CSSD) will work closely with the South Sudan Senior Management Team to ensure a culture of Safety and Security exists within the Country Office and across all departments and in all locations. Working closely with the operations teams and surge teams the CSSD will work to ensure Safety and Security compliance is implemented and maintained; the CSSD will also ensure that regular context analysis is undertaken for decision making. The CSSD will also make recommendations and support the integration of safety and security in programme implementation in close coordination with the DPO.

The CSSD will facilitate the implementation of Save the Children's International Safety and Security Policy and Standards within the Country Office and Field Bases, driving systemic change in the quality of Safety and Security Management and ensuring country compliance and ownership of the Safety and Security Protocols in adherance to our minimum standards. S/He will take forward the organisations security ethos. The post holder will play a key role in the capacity building of Safety & Security staff and Focal Points in accordance with the Global Learning and Development strategy.

The Safety and Security Director will be expected to undertake a leadership role in an emergency or crisis in strong collaboration with the Country Director and SMT.

Contract Duration: 2 Years

Location: Juba with travel to field

Qualifications
Higher Qualification in Safety and Security Management
Proven training of trainer's skills, qualifications and experience of training multi-national staff.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels and establish networks
Strong analytical skills and experience of incident reporting, incident mapping, information collation and dissemination
Experience of working in South Sudan or a similar context - with operational experience preferred.
Proven experience and understanding of humanitarian operations and understanding of programming in an emergency.
Experience of working in hostile environments. Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a highly stressful and challenging environment.
Strong leadership and business partnering skills and proven skills in managing a team in hostile environments
Proven knowledge of MS office applications and IT literacy and capacity to learn and use other packages.
Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children International. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children Internationals mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin all aspects of the job.
