Role synopsis
The purpose of the Security Function is to drive safe, compliant and reliable operations across the company, protecting People, Business and Assets.
This BSM role it is primarily responsible for providing Functional excellence in assessing Security Threats, Risks, Mitigations and actions to protect assets (people, property, information, operational capability and reputation) against risk of injury, loss or damage from criminal, hostile or malicious acts across multiple business streams.
Successful hired on the ability to:
Provide a comprehensive service which identifies risks, make threat assessments, conduct security risk management solutions which have an impact on the business.
Leverage strong relationships with external government & law enforcement agencies as well as Commercial Security colleagues.
Interact and communicate effectively with senior management, business clients, colleagues and external parties.
Operate effectively with minimal direction, applying specialist expertise and proposing changes in practice where necessary
Key accountabilities
Assesse risk and take action where necessary to strengthen barriers.
Advise Businesses on the management of Security in line with Group Guides and protocols, providing input into their regular assessments and security management process to develop and prioritise risk and mitigation strategies
Security management of all Angola Region Security Operations and abroad, including aviation, offshore installations, logistics base (Sonils, Soyo, Lobito, Porto Amboim and Dande), BP offices and residences.
Provide security briefings to all BP visitors and executive protection to VIPs.
Ensure that security overview of all security related transport & Protocol / Meet & Assist matters are up-to-date and in place.
Monitor the implementation of the management of security service contract.
Work with businesses to ensure legal compliance with Government or internal protocols.
Delivery of security awareness programmes
Ensure that appropriate security awareness training needs are identified and the relevant training delivered across business streams.
Train, develop and mentor team members
Provide leadership in specialist area, operating with general direction only, proposing changes in practice where necessary
Ensure Journey management Protocol s are in place and effective
Work Closely with ISC to ensure SME input to strategies and to support Assurance work and Central guidance
In conjunction with ISC, Produce regional and area specific Threat Assessments involving significant liaison with external agencies including (as required or practical) the Police, Military and other government and law enforcement agencies, to identify current and emerging risks, and provide tailored and fit-for-purpose advice.
Contribute to Business Leadership Team in the development and delivery of Security solutions to ensure risk reductions against a wide range of threats.
Network with those responsible for security across the Business on key issues, and share best practices. Liaise with DS&R (Digital Security and Risk), Internal Audit, HSE, Legal, HR and other BP functions on areas of shared risk.
Work with IT&S / DS&R on assessing a single Cyber risk for the business and work with Group ISC and DS%R on appropriate mitigation stratwegies
Advise on, or investigate acts of criminality and fraud against the Company and other investigations such as M&A non-financial due diligence - in conjunction with or direction from the BP BI team.
Provide advice and support to management in the event of a security emergency and volatile periods such as civil unrest, terrorist attacks and kidnap. Pre-emptive advice on risk reduction strategies for predicted periods of concern or during major events that could disrupt business.
Provide security advice to Major Capital Projects (with ISC) to planned operations or JV’s across the full range of financial opportunities.
On a regional or area specific basis, work with businesses to ensure compliance with governmental security regulations or requirements. Provide expertise to businesses along these lines.Provide advice and support to the businesses in the implementation of the Voluntary Principles of Security and Human Rights
Managing the balance between delivery of adequate and sustainable level of security solutions against continually tightening budgetary constraints.
Maintaining security in culturally diverse businesses with differing levels of perceived risk acceptance.
Managing a significant degree of unpredictability in the scale of the workload and the complexity of the issues requiring resolution.
Leading change by effectively influencing key stakeholders (without formal authority) and having personal impact.
Essential Education
Technical Diploma or Degree
Essential experience and job requirements
Angolan National
Significant experience working in the Security industry or related public sector roles - 5 years
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Previous leadership experience within the Police, Military, Security Services, or other law enforcement agencies or as a Professional Security Manager with commercial experience.
Strong working knowledge of criminal procedure.
Will have received comprehensive management training, ideally some in an industrial security environment.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
A developed understanding of geo-political issues and security threats impacting the Angola region.
The candidate should demonstrate dynamism and energy together with strong communication and interpersonal skills; as the role will be vital to not only the public face of the company but also internally, as this will be a lead coaching, guiding, .mentoring and persuading position with interface at all levels of the organisation including senior executives. Maintenance and enhancement of relationships within the BP world-wide security network, other functions and business segments is essential.
The BSM Is expected to integrate him/herself directly into business leadership discussions at local and regional levels
Works in accordance with Group protocols but has considerable autonomy in the day to day running and professional advice to the Region
