About the job
The Danish Refugee Council is looking for a Safety Policy Adviser (SPA) for one year, initially, to provide specialized and coordinated safety management support to DRC’s global operations. Reporting to the Global Head of Safety, you will support the development, maintenance and roll out of global safety standards, policies and tools and ensure that DRC’s quality and safety compliance standards are met to the desired level and in an acceptably uniform way across DRC operations.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to:
Review field practice in the Safety Risk Management System (SRMS), identify best practices, and align with other Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes;
Edit and develop key policy documents and toolboxes of SRMS and RMF;
Monitor, control and report on the compliance of operations – either by direct monitoring, or through specialist networks;
Coordinate and facilitate Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) and support the implementation of mitigation measures;
Analyse and report on relevant safety information at global, regional, country and field level to support qualitative decision-making regarding safety and improved humanitarian access;
Coordinate, relevant Incident Management Teams (IMTs) and coordinate surge support to IMTs and the Regional CMT as required; and
Act as Global Head of Safety when required.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to a stable and robust individual with impeccable integrity and excellent interpersonal and team work skills. You have significant aid safety and security management experience with a proven ability to develop and implement effective and contextualized protocols and systems. You have strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in fluent English. You establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.

Moreover, we expect you to have the following:

Required
At least 5 years INGO/IO/Development Aid safety and security management experience with a proven ability to develop and implement effective and contextualized protocols and systems;
At least 5 years work experience in volatile contexts and conflict-affected environments;
Demonstrable experience in conflict analysis;
Well-versed in data collection/management;
University degree in relevant discipline; and
Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Desirable
Working level French

We offer

DRC is offering a 1-year contract for this position. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the relevant union agreement. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.

Please note that you need to have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa) in order to be considered for this role.

Interview and starting date: Interviews will be held in late January or early February and a starting date as soon as possible, preferably March. Due to the urgency of the position, we may begin interviewing candidates on a rolling basis.
