Job Description:
The S1 Trainer/Mentor will Train, Advise, Assist and Mentor (TAAM) the SMW Special Operations Advisory Team (SOAT) S1 on all matters concerning Human Resources (HR) support. The trainer works in coordination with the SMW G1 and shall be capable of the following: manning, personnel services, personnel support, and headquarters management. The mentor shall TAAM on maintaining overall responsibility for personnel readiness management of subordinate elements.
The mentor shall TAAM on personnel action requests, requests for leaves or passes, changes to records, casualty operations record, report, verify, and process casualty information from the unit level, notify appropriate individuals, and provide casualty assistance to the next-of-kin. Manage the organization and administration of the headquarters, provide administrative support for military personnel.
The S1 Trainer shall implement and operate programs, practices, and procedures for developing optimal utilization of personnel. Design and administer programs to train all levels of personnel. Develop tests and visual aids as required. Coordinate class arrangements, conduct training classes, and develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities as needed to continue development. Keep abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques. Develop programs and practices to identify developmental needs including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments. If required, may use technical experts to assist in training.
Work Hours:
Standard will be 6 days/week for up to 10 hours/day while OCONUS and 40 hours/week while CONUS
Responsibilities:
-The S1 Trainer shall be prepared to develop skills or train their counterpart on the following tasks:
-Conduct Personnel Readiness Management; Conduct Replacement Operations; Provide Career Management; Provide Personnel Information Management; Perform Personnel Data Management; Maintain Personnel Records; Conduct Personnel Accounting and Strength Reporting; Provide Personnel Services: Conduct Casualty Operations; Perform Essential Personnel Services; Provide Identification Documents; Operate Award and Recognition Programs; Provide Personnel Promotion and Reductions Support; Control Personnel Evaluations; Operate Leave and Pass Program
-Conduct Line of Duty Investigations; Equal Opportunity; Conduct HR Planning and Staff Operations; Perform Coordinating Staff Operations; Perform Pay Services; Pay adjustment for personnel who went AWOL or absent; Request Bank of ID Card for Soldiers/ authorized surviving dependents; Enroll assigned personnel in APPS, AHRIMS, EFT, and Biometrics
-Train their counterpart on how to perform personnel services and support, personnel accountability, and strength reporting
-Provide daily Personnel Statistics (PERSTAT) on a Shared repository site to be specified or as needed. PERSTAT can be gathered directly from the SOK staff/commander and should be revalidated by actual personnel counts whenever feasible
-Report to the Team Lead, as well as the Deputy Program Manager
-Responsible for regularly interacting with US military personnel
-Based on circumstances that are unique to their work locations, trainers will be responsible for making on the scene decisions as to how to execute the curriculum
-Along with their local site managers, trainers will be responsible for assessing how well
the counterparts are developing
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a former E7/CW2/O3 or higher in military occupational specialty 42 series, 420 series or service equivalent, or worked as a civilian in a similar capacity as a contractor or USG Civil Servant. Will have at least four (4) years of experience in military personnel administration operations, having served in either a battalion S1, brigade S1, or Personnel Services Battalion (PSB)
-Must be a graduate of a formal US Military school for Administrative / Personnel Management and be awarded that military occupational specialty 42A or service equivalent
-Must possess a US Passport with at least 6 months of remaining eligibility
-Must be able to obtain an Afghanistan Visa
-Competent with operating Personal Computer Skills & Microsoft Office
-Excellent Leadership, Organizational & Project Mgmt Skills
Physical & Mental Requirements:
-This is an ARMED position. Must obtain and maintain eligibility to possess & operate a firearm in Afghanistan (AFG). As a business necessity, must successfully complete/maintain arming requirements including but not limited to: Psychological evaluation (initial evaluation & annual reevaluations); Completion of Civilian Arming Authorization Mgmt System (CAAMS) requirements/documentation & Arming Authorization Letter from US Forces AFG; Afghan weapons permit from the Afghan Ministry of the Interior
-Wear required personal protective gear: body armor, helmet, etc. Independently lift/carry duffle bags with a max weight of 70 lbs/piece & move across uneven terrain
-Work & live in AFG with potential assignment to any location in AFG based upon needs of the U.S. Gov’t
-Meet medical requirements for position as determined by a pre-employment medical screening & published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards
-Walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to 8 hours/day & sit for up to 3 hours/day; climb/descend stairs; grasp or handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend elbows/knees; reach above/below shoulders; read/interpret typewritten print; communicate by voice & detect sound by ear
-Work, live & respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances in a potentially hostile environment - at remote locations, under austere conditions - with extreme aircraft noise, hostile fire, other acts of aggression and/or extreme weather conditions

-S1 with previous assignments with Infantry or Special Operations type units

-12 months experience in Afghanistan and Special Operations Forces experience
Required Education:
-Bachelor's degree from accredited school & four (4) years of related experience, OR two (2) years related experience with Master's degree. Eight (8) years of additional equivalent work experience (12 total years) may be accepted in lieu of BA/BS education requirement.
