The Security and Safety Adviser is a high-profile role with interaction at the most senior level across the AKDN requiring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and explain the value of security/risk initiatives to senior executives at the highest level. Based in Europe with heavy travel to developing countries, the Security and Safety Advisor will be responsible for advising on security and safety matters, directing and monitoring safety related policies, systems and tools to manage risks across the organisation globally and represent the AKDN externally with security and safety related entities.

Based in Europe with heavy travel to developing countries, the Security and Safety Advisor will be responsible for advising on security and safety matters, directing and monitoring safety related policies, systems and tools to manage risks across the organisation globally and represent the AKDN externally with security and safety related entities.
Profile
This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary with a strong strategic background to build the capacity of the organisation in the area of security and safety. While technical skills are important the emphasis of the role and success of the individual will depend on the strategic, organisational positioning and interpersonal abilities.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant field, a police or military background and 15 years of progressive, strategic management experience concerning security and safety within large, complex international organisations. Experience in both private and development or humanitarian contexts would be ideal and knowledge and experience in the regions where AKDN is present. Exposure to the diplomatic world would be advantageous.
S/he should have a steady and calm demeanour, experience with different working styles and environment and with the ability to build, develop and coordinate teams. Fluency in English is essential and knowledge of other languages will be a further asset.
