About the job


The Safety Training Coordinator is a full-time position based in Copenhagen with frequent travel to DRC field programmes. The primary goal of this position is to provide specialized, coordinated and focused safety training, with an aim to reduce the risks posed to DRC staff and programmes. Tasked by the Global Head of Safety, the Safety Training Coordinator supports DRC programs dealing with situations of acute insecurity in the field and ensures to have relevant, updated information regarding safety concerns and issues to the particular areas under review. As part of the safety training, the Safety Training Coordinator is to lead the development of the safety training business model, in making DRC market leading NGO safety training provider.


The Safety Training Coordinator has a formal role in terms of decision-making authority for DRC Safety Training. The Safety Training Coordinator has in consultation with the Global Head of Safety authority to instruct DRC operations to implement certain decisions in order to meet agreed organizational standards. The Safety Training Coordinator is a custodian for development and implementation of DRC safety training policy.


The Safety Training Coordinator will work to implement the DRC Safety Risk Management System (SRMS) for both DRC and external clients as required.


Your main duties and responsibilities will be:


Strategy
Proactively inform DRC’s global safety strategy and objectives
Produce an annual global surge and training work-plan in support of the global strategic priorities. The work-plan should consolidate input from regional and country Results Contracts
The focus is heavily on training. The annual wheel takes stock of the training requirements around DRC’s operations. The Safety Training Coordinator plans out training for the whole year, for DRC and external clients


Operational
Monitor, control, and report on the compliance of operations – either by direct monitoring or through specialist networks
Coordinate and facilitate Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) and support the implementation of mitigation measures.
Analyse and report on relevant safety information at Global, regional, country and field level in support of qualitative decision regarding safety and improved humanitarian access
Develop and implement safety training in accordance with the requirements in the DRC Global Safety Policy and DRC external and commercial interests
Ensure best practice on all type of safety related training courses and keep up to date with the aid community needs, to deliver targeted training to DRC and external clients
Mentor and provide technical supervision to the DRC training team
Coordinate, relevant Incident Management Teams (IMTs)
Coordinate surge support to IMTs and the Regional CMT as required
Be prepared to act as Global Safety Adviser in his absence


Training, learning and concept development
Plan and coordinate safety training and learning initiatives across the organization and external clients
Custodian for all safety training documentation, data, and records (training register, incident tracking, etc.)
Take lead in relation to innovation and concept development
Coordinate the safety adviser and training roster and roving safety advisers


Reporting and production of data
Develop and maintain the global safety policy
Develop a business development strategy for NGO safety training


External relations
Make sure that DRC has updated and relevant knowledge about debates and developments in Safety thematic fora and be part of strategic alliances


About you


To be successful in this role we expect you to:


Required
Excellent communication skills in English is required
University degree in relevant discipline (political science, peace & conflict studies, history, etc.)
No less than five years INGO/IO/Development Aid safety and security management experience with a proven ability to develop and implement effective and contextualized protocols and systems
No less than five years work experience in volatile contexts and conflict-affected environments
Strong analytical as well as writing skills and the ability to provide conflict analysis
Well-versed in data collection/management
Vast experience with delivering safety-related training to both national and international staff members.
Previous exposure to be custodian for course curriculum of Hazardous Environment Awareness Training
Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to humanitarian principles


Desirable
Understanding French an advantage
Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Stable and robust character with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to train and convey information to non-safety personnel
Ability to multitask and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment

The position for the post is permanent.


Start Date: 1 November


Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Agreement with the AC-Union.


The workplace will be at DRCs Main Office at Borgergade 10, 1300 KBH K.
