Main Responsibilities:
The GSAA is responsible for developing and then delivering a range of regular reporting services to the global NGO community. After assessing the needs and developing products that fit them, the GSAA will collate, evaluate and analyse information drawn from both inside and outside the organisation in order to produce accurate, timely and integrated products including:
A Monthly NGO Security Report that provides an overview of all NGO related security incidents recorded during the month with assessment & recommendations.
A Quarterly Conflict Report that summarises the main conflict/situation developments in each INSO country along with assessment and recommendations.
Periodic Situation/Briefing Papers (1-pagers) that summarises the main dynamics of significant events/changes in context along with assessment and implications.
In coordination with country level analysts, co-author detailed Country Profiles (updated annually) intended to support NGO orientation, assessment and start-up.
The GSAA will also support the internal information needs of INSO and will be expected to:
Support the Executive Director/Section Directors with briefings and presentations on conflict/humanitarian dynamics at conferences and meetings as required.
Author occasional conflict/humanitarian summaries for website articles, donor briefings or other communication requirements as requested.
Serve as focal point for incoming requests for data/information from NGO HQ members.
Provide periodic editorial advice & support to the country offices.
Minimum Requirements:
A keen and prolific author (expository style preferred) with native level English language and advanced writing and editing skills (grammar/syntax, punctuation, spelling).
Experience with common design and publishing software.
MSc or above in relevant field (conflict studies, international relations, journalism etc)
Minimum five years in strategic conflict/humanitarian analysis and reporting role.
Minimum three years in producing such reports for the humanitarian community specifically (NGO, UN or Red Cross)
Experience in new product conceptualisation & development.
Track record in producing fully edited, publication quality reports.
Understanding of how to combine written analysis with GIS and data elements to produce holistic infographic reports.
Demonstrable understanding of the current security information tools, needs, gaps and priorities of the humanitarian community.
Demonstrable baseline understanding of contemporary conflicts.
Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian principles and practises
Willingness to travel to conflict affected countries.
Ability to coordinate with multi-cultural staff against tight deadlines.
Organised and detail-oriented.
Motivated by the humanitarian cause rather than personal promotion.
