OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
In Mali, our client supports the Action Service of the United Nations mine action program (UNMAS), which takes its principal resolution SCR 2227 (2015), to contribute to the following objectives, namely: (i) reduce the threat may incur MINUSMA and the UN staff by providing specialized training, equipment and supervision of fighting international engineering teams responsible for EOD and C-IED operations, and the awareness of the United Nations risks personnel. (ii) strengthen national capacities to mitigate the explosive threats through support advice and technical assistance to the Forces of Defence and Security of Mali (MSDS) and advisory support to the National Commission against the proliferation of small arms and small arms (CNLALPC), and (iii) improving the protection of civilians by supporting and affecting international demining operators in priority areas contaminated central and northern Mali for educational operations and risks pollution. UNMAS Mali is headquartered in Bamako and six (6) regional offices; Timbuktu, Gao, Kidal and Mopti, Tessalit, Menaka.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
The Specialist EOD Equipment Technician will be working within the UNMAS Mali Joint Operations Centre and will be responsible for the maintenance, management and local repair of all UNMAS EOD and IEDD specialist equipment, distributed to MINUSMA TCCs.
The Specialist EOD Equipment Technician will be responsible for the following main IEDD equipment;
• ROV – ICOR Mk 3
• ROV – Digital Vanguard
• Detector – Vallon VMR3
• Detector – Minelab F3
• X-Ray – Flatscan
They will perform the following functions in relation to this equipment;
• Perform electronic fault finding.
• Perform second line repair.
• Liaise with equipment manufacturer to solve equipment issues and provide technical feedback.
• In close liaison with UNMAS Mali Support Services, manage local asset register detailing locations and serviceability of all EOD equipment within the UNMAS Program.
• Manage the inventory of spare parts for EOD equipment including submitting requisitions for spares.
• Advise users on maintenance issues.
• Carry out ROV maintenance training for users.
• Produce a weekly summary report of equipment states.
• Introduction and management of maintenance and care schedules.
In addition to this the Specialist EOD Equipment Technician will also perform the following functions.
• Focal point for all EOD equipment related matters.
• Liaison between Operations and Support Services on all EOD equipment.
• Management of Equipment Fault Reports raised by users.
• Management and husbandry of all other EOD related equipment.
• Any other tasks as indicated by the UNMAS Chief of Operations
Expected output:
• Production of maintenance schedules.
• Weekly summary of equipment states.
• Locally repair equipment which cannot be repaired by user.
Project reporting:
• Weekly reports as detailed above. Format will be produced by the consultant with approval from Chief of Operations.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
§ Master's degree in relevant discipline and/or Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline.
Work experience:
§ Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Mine Action experience and/or minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Military experience.
Geographical experience:
§ Minimum of 1 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Gao is an advantage.
Languages:
§ Fluency in English (essential) and French (desirable).

Other relevant information:
Electronics degree or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or a vocational electronics certificate with at least 7 years documented experience as an electronics technician.
At least 5 years’ experience as an electronics technician carrying out fault finding, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment at all levels.
At least 1 year previous experience in fault finding, maintenance and local repair of ROVs required.
At least 1 year previous experience in fault finding, maintenance and local repair of EOD Detectors required.
At least 2 years’ experience in equipment management and husbandry required.
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Driving Licence internationally recognized
Proof of having worked in a hardship posting
Self-reliant, able to take sound decisions and work independently and ability to live in severe field conditions and to effectively work in a multicultural and stressful environment.
Previous experience of the general logistics process desired.
Fluency in English, Basic knowledge of French would be an advantage
Physically fit and healthy
