The General Services Department (GSD) provides a broad range of shared corporate services that are essential to the effective functioning and mission of the World Bank Group. GSD operations fall under very distinct and complex business enterprises that have expanded globally over the years. These services include: Corporate Security; Corporate Real Estate & Facilities; Liability Insurance; Printing & Multimedia; Food & Conferences; Travel Services; Mail & Shipping; Art Program; Commuter Services; Child Care Center; Fitness Center; Translation & Interpretation, Corporate Responsibility; Global Meetings Management Program; and GSD Service Desk. The WBG Staff Association and 1818 Society report to GSD for administrative purposes. GSD reports to the Budget, Performance Review, and Strategic Planning vice presidential unit.
Staff safety is of paramount importance to the WBG and as such the Corporate Security division in GSD is tasked with threat analysis and providing measures to mitigate risks to staff and facilities. The WBG consists of national and international staff and visiting mission staff based in various country offices.
