Overview of position:
The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of refugees. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
In more than five decades, the agency has helped more than tens of millions of people restart their lives. Today a staff of some 6,600 people in more than 110 countries continue to help more than 34 million persons. To help and protect some of the world's most vulnerable people in so many places and types of environment.
Role objectives:
The objective for this is to provide security services in one of the refugee campsites in Souda.
Expected output:
Control both entrances to the camp to screen those entering.
Patrol the camp on a regular basis
Liaise with police as necessary to report any incidents of crime, unrest or violence
Report to the camp management and UNHCR on a regular basis with security updates
Provide security to the Souda admin area and humanitarian agencies working inside.
Project reporting:
This role reports to the Project Coordinator.
Key competencies:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience of working remotely and in areas of risk
Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in a security capacity
Ability to work in a multi-national/cultural environment.
Ability to work in a gender-equal and multi-cultural environment.
Experience working in aid or development.
Experience in dealing with local and national institutions (Government, Military and Police etc.)
Ability to travel (subject to security clearance).
