Responsibilities
K2 Solutions, Inc. is seeking experienced Canine Handlers for Canine Handler-Guard roles overseas. Deployments may be up to one year in duration with potential for additional deployment time beyond the initial term.
This position requires you to be a US Citizen.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide on and off compound detection of explosive materials
Perform daily maintenance training (i.e., performance and explosives detection) and maintain training records for assigned detection dogs
Maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs, to include maintaining diet, ensuring adequate water throughout the day, and daily health checks and grooming
Maintain all assigned canine-related equipment
Conduct daily kennel care as directed for assigned dog
Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed
Maintain the canine's proficiency in explosive detection through routine training
Utilize canine as directed to protect life and property of facility or post and in support of designated operations
Summon professional assistance in rendering first responder first aid to any personnel becoming injured
Adhere to the daily duty roster and training schedule
Understand and follow base instructions and K2 SOPs
Understand and apply report response procedures
Other duties as assigned
Successful candidates must be able to deploy at short notice.
Experience and Education:
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Level 3 English proficiency
Must currently have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Successfully train to and complete training in accordance with North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) and the National Odor Recognition Test (NORT) as well as certify under the Department of State Odor Recognition Test (DSORT) and the Department of State Operational Testing
Must have two years of service as a detection dog handler
One year of security related experience preferably in a high threat environment. Experience can be gained in the employ of any national, State/Provincial, Local or commercial entities providing high threat protective services
Must be able to recognize K-9 diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements and know the physical condition of the dog
Physical fitness level that will project the appearance of professionalism and that allows for protective security assignments (height and weight in proportion)
Proven and documented experience with maintaining canine training records, handling, utilization and storage of explosive training aids
Ability to qualify on required weapons systems
Desired:
Completed or served three years in the military, law enforcement or protective security from private sector, with honorable discharge
Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization including management, peers, team members and customer-base
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion
Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process
Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
Ability and desire to work in a high threat environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
International travel to high threat / high risk or austere areas required
Work is based in a fast paced facility/operational environment and subject to frequent interruptions
Work hours will be shift based
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs.
Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions
Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling throughout the work day
Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE ALL REQUIRED TRAINING AND STANDARDS, which include:
Complete the DS Physical Readiness Test (Sit Ups, Push Ups, Run) and maintain that fitness level for the duration of his/her service on the task order
(Additionally: Be able to dynamically lift objects and/or a canine weighing up to 90 lbs. up to 60 inches in height, Be able to carry a canine or similar dummy object weighing up to 90 lbs. for 25 feet, Be able to push a crate or object resembling a crate, with or without a canine inside, on a variety of flat surfaces, Be able to kneel and/or squat for up to 2 minutes, Be able to crawl in prone position up to 25 feet, Be able to walk on varying terrain for up to 30 minutes)
