Job Summary

The Fire Sprinkler Technician performs a broad range of maintenance, repair, and installation support, also incorporating inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of water-based sprinkler systems and special hazards suppression systems.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Identifies life, health, and safety issues and repairs circuitry faults on fire Suppression/sprinkler systems
Installs, maintains, repairs, or replaces fire suppression/sprinkler equipment and systems in strict accordance with applicable codes and standards
Identifies proper materials for use on specific installations and completes maintenance and repair records
Follows all safety rules and procedures including wearing required personal safety equipment
Oversees the work of assigned employees to ensure compliance with standards
Ensures tools and equipment are properly maintained in a safe operating condition and work areas are clean and hazard free
Submits documented reports regarding fire suppression system’s inspection, test, maintenance or repair work
Oversees regularly scheduled testing of fire suppression systems
Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
Capable of maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire suppression/sprinkler systems in accordance with applicable standards
Knowledge of applicable codes required by contract, such as NFPA 25 Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, NFPA 13 Guide for Sprinkler Plan Review, NFPA 170 Standard on Fire Safety Symbols, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Codes (IBC), and/or applicable British Standard (BS) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards with ability to pass a trade test
Knowledge and skill in the safe operation and application of test instruments
Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics, instructions, and other technical documentation
Ability to complete accurate and timely maintenance and work records
Knowledge of safe work practices, lockout / tag out procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
Ability to use a computer and related software

Experience & Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Fire Suppression/Sprinkler System Technician
Hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing design calculations on fire suppression /sprinkler system panels and equipment
Valid fire suppression/sprinkler technician license certification such as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems Level II or applicable government recognized license/certification required by contract
Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
Must be physically fit to stand and bend for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
Mandatory use of appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE)

Must have ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance at proper level
