Work Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Includes rotational 12-hour night shift that attracts shift pay of 25% of basic salary.

Salary: £21,501 gross starting salary per annum, (consisting of: basic salary £19,848 and bonus £1,653). Plus discounted health care plan.

The Locally Engaged Guard Force based at the U.S. Consulate, Belfast, plays a crucial role in maintaining an unparalleled security and emergency service at the Consulate and Consul General’s Residence (CGR). This highly regarded team actively safeguards the physical security of U.S. Government (USG) property, personnel and equipment, both at fixed posts and during roving patrols.

We need a new team member capable and willing to adapt and interact with a diverse customer base – official and non-official visitors, consular service clients and USG personnel.


Drawing from your public access control experience, gained within a private, public, military or police security environment, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: operating, monitoring and troubleshooting an array of complex technical security equipment and systems; regularly patrolling and inspecting USG property to ensure that they are secure against intrusion; utilizing training, available standard operating procedures and excellent judgment skills to immediately and independently assess and respond to all emergency and emergent situations, including fire, theft, attack, illness or injury to staff or visitors, and, or uncooperative clients; reporting any unusual incidents; assisting local law enforcement; conducting weekly safety, security and fuel inspections of consulate vehicles to ensure their readiness for use in an emergency; performing occasional driving duties.

Qualifications Required:

Education:
Four GCSE’s, High School Diploma or equivalent academic qualification.

Prior Work Experience:
Experience in a security environment, including public access control experience, extensive public contact responsibilities, implementation of access control procedures, and responsibility for visitor security and safety is required. Experience in a public service security environment, police or military service, or with a private security company is required.

Language Proficiency:
Level III – Good working knowledge of written and spoken English is required.

Knowledge:
Excellent knowledge of various access control procedures and familiarity with the principles of access control policies are required. Working knowledge of local law enforcement agencies and authorities and some knowledge of diplomatic protocol are required. Experience of emergency management practices, procedures and response are required.

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work effectively alone or as part of a team is required. Ability to work with the public in an efficient, courteous, and if necessary, firm manner is required. Ability to understand and issue clear instructions is required. Ability to carry out several related tasks simultaneously is required. Ability to react and respond appropriately to emergency situations is required. Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on complex technical security systems and equipment including: metal detectors, x-ray machines, automated explosives detection devices, camera and alarm systems, and entry barriers is required. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and people-handling skills are essential. A valid full (manual) UK/EU/EEA driver’s license is required.
