Security Manager

The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is currently looking for an experienced Security Manager to lead on safety and security management across the organisation through accessing quality security information, delivering training and providing policy and standards guidance.
The succesful candidate will be working closely with the Director of Humanitarian Programmes in ensuring the security of ODI personnel by providing strategic direction, tactical management, emergency planning and disaster recovery strategies. She/He will be developing strategy and
policies to fit the Institute’s risk appetite, ensuring that ODI is able to work in difficult situations whilst managing risks effectively.

You will have:

  • Education to degree level or professional equivalent.
  • Field experience in post-conflict and/or high-risk environments operating in a security role within the NGO or similar sector.
  • Previous experience of managing global security operations for an international organisation.
  • Extensive experience in setting up and managing safety and security systems and protocols and provide training to staff and partners.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex emergencies, related security concerns, and appropriate responses to such emergencies.
  • Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information.
  • Excellent knowledge of a broad range of countries and contexts internationally.
  • Exceptional communication skills for explaining complex security concerns, policies, protocols, and procedures to senior management, employees, consultants, volunteers and consistently apply them at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others in challenging environments.
  • Good ability to plan, think strategically and make decisions alone if necessary.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English.
  • A high level of computer literacy.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Willingness to travel to post-conflict and high-risk environments as needed.
