Security Manager , West Africa

Closing date: 17 Jun 2015Chemonics seeks a security manager for its West Africa and Haiti regional business unit. West Africa and Haiti's regional portfolio includes nine projects based throughout the region. We are looking for a candidate with a record of versatility, leadership, and integrity to lead the region’s security operations and contribute to its Security Management Unit.

Responsibilities include:
  • Manage regional incidents and emergencies in collaboration with the Global Safety and Security Department
  • Monitor, assess, and analyze regional security trends through open-source reporting and liaising with field security employees; continually share knowledge with the regional senior vice president, project directors, project staff, and the Global Safety and Security Department
  • Update the Security Management Unit director and Global Safety and Security Department on potential safety- and security-related risks or problems within the region
  • Assist project management units and project teams in recruiting, hiring, and monitoring safety and security project staff, ensuring that selected personnel meet appropriate requirements
  • Research and recommend operational security practices (collaborating with the Global Safety and Security Department as appropriate) and assist in implementing relevant changes​
Qualifications:
  • Four years of administrative, project management and implementation, or other technically relevant experience in the security or international development sectors, preferably in security-challenged environments
  • Ability to implement security platforms for civilian operations in conflict zones, including successful crisis management, remote resource management, and subcontracts management
  • Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage activities, budgets, and resources to produce results
  • Experience in subcontract management and administration; familiarity with USAID's rules and regulations
  • Willingness to work in the field for up to four to eight weeks per year, and to consider long-term overseas assignments
  • Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, experience, and knowledge
  • Ability to manage initiatives and supervise departmental staff and project teams
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Proficient French required
