About International Location Safety
ILS is a UK based security consultancy and training provider.
Founded in 2010 by aid and development professionals with extensive experience of managing safety and security in complex environments, our mandate is to meet the need for robust, comprehensive but pragmatic solutions to the management of safety and security in an increasingly violent humanitarian operating space.

We deliver advice and support to our NGO clients in both hemispheres in all matters of safety and security risk management.

We provide a broad range of risk appropriate safety and security focussed training programmes.

About the role
The Senior Security Advisor role will form a critical position within our small team, based in our UK office, and will report to the Managing Director.

The successful applicant’s primary role will be to engage directly with ILS’ clients to provide advice, training and support to their operations and people around the world. The post holder will also be expected to develop proposals for new work with other members of the team.

The role will require regular travel to sometimes hazardous areas, to advise and train local teams on a broad range of safety and security issues.

Essential Requirements
  • At least 5 years experience of managing Safety and Security within an international NGO context
  • Experience of operating in conflict / post conflict environments
  • Managerial experience within the aid and development context
  • Willing to undertake extensive work related travel
  • A solid understanding of crisis management processes
  • Training of trainers for adult learning (or equivalent) qualification
  • Experience of running security related learning programmes
  • Expertise in current safety and security practices
  • A good understanding of legal duty of care
  • Good understanding of issues affecting aid and development
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex information to a range of levels and technical abilities
  • A strong team player, self motivated and able to organise workload, with the ability to work over multiple projects
  • Willing to work flexibly as part of a small team
  • Familiar with Interaction Security Risk Management Model
  • Excellent Report writing skills, with the ability to produce concise and succinct reports
  • IT literateStrong administrative skills
  • Able to demonstrate cultural and gender sensitivity
  • Fluent in English

Desirable
  • Experience of writing funding proposals and/or tender document
  • A recognised teaching qualification
  • French and/or Arabic language skills
  • Critical Incident and Crisis Management experience
  • Full driving licence
About you
You are a highly motivated, competent security professional working (now or previously) as an NGO security advisor. You are happy to work flexibly as part of a small, dedicated team to which you will offer a proactive attitude. You are prepared to work with clients who have a very varied technical security ability / understanding and for whom you will be able to conduct context, threat and risk assessments.

You are a confident trainer, able to deliver learning programmes to a culturally diverse audience with a very broad range of vulnerabilities.
