Job Summary
The Aerial Gunner Lead (AGL) supervises the day to day activities of Aerial Gunner’s and provides a single point of contact to the lead pilot.Principal Accountabilities

- Provide oversight and supervision of gunners, armament personnel and the armory.
- Write performance assessments on the gunners and armament personnel.
- Transport Cargo and Passengers to include other missions (Command and Control, Movement of Quick Reaction Forces and other Security Forces, Armed Escort) as directed.
- Perform as a crewmember on assigned helicopters in support of missions that are accomplished during day and night
- Perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather, night and NVG operations.
- Participate in mission preparation and recovery operations.
- Provide oversight and training for preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions.
- Perform or assists in aircrew debriefing.
- Maintain all weapons in a ready status and ensuring all aircraft weapons systems are in a mission capable status.
- Understand maintenance data forms and historical records and ensure that they are accurate, up to date, and complete.
- Responsible for operating and implementing contract requirements; manage individual personnel development within section.
- Responsible for the performance assessments of gunners and armament personnel.
- Schedule leave for the aerial gunners and armament personnel.
- Perform other administrative task as assigned.
- Perform additional duties related to flight operations as required.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret technical documents, including manuals, and technical data and schematics.
- Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of aircraft systems, components, and operations to include associated weapons.
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of Quality Control programs, OSHA and Department of State Regulations.
- Knowledge of the Automated Logbook Systems (AWIS) desired.
- Completion of associated weapons school for weapon supported.
- Thorough understanding of Helicopter Door Gunnery Training and Qualification Program, techniques, and tactics IAW FM 3-4-140.
- Able to operate the, M-240series, and GAU-17 armament system, perform operational checks on electrical harnesses, connectors and switches.
- Proficient in the operation, maintenance and inspection of aircraft armament systems (M-240series, GAU-17) and accompanying subsystems.
- Must possess a current US passport or have the ability to obtain one before assignment.
- Individual must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance as a condition of employment. A current DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
- 750 or more total rotary wing flight hours.
- Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and with at least 150 flight hours of NVG experience.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience as a licensed A&P; aircraft mechanic with experience on helicopters and associated sub systems.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience as a Non-Rated Crewmember (NRCM).
- One (1) year full time field service in the last three (3) years.
- Previous military crewmember experience with knowledge of helicopter mounted weapons systems and their employment in a high-threat environment to include combat experience is highly desired.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience with crew served weapons maintenance desired.
- Experience running an armory desired.
- Potential for exposure to hostile fire in this region is high.
- Must possess and maintain a current, FAA Class III Medical Certificate
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for up to twelve (12) hours per day and sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.
- Must be able to perform non-rated crewmember duties during mission operations.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth, and be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print, maps, aeronautical charts, and weather charts.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must be physically capable of climbing vertical ladders or built-in aircraft steps to heights of 10-12 feet.
- May be required to lift up to 150 pounds to a height of three (3) feet.
- Individual must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes, gas, airborne particles, chemical mist, vapors, ultra-violet and infrared radiation.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles or aircraft.
- Travel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations as requested is required.
