Organization Description
Most of the world's poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor people in the world. One Acre Fund is a growing NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure 50-100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.
We are growing quickly. In eight years, we have grown to serve 180,000 farm families with more than 2000 full-time field staff. Our approach has won widespread validation, winning grants from The MasterCard Foundation and Gates Foundation.

The International Safety Coordinator will set strategy and coordinate implementation for these essential program support functions. You will develop internationally coordinated procedures and protocols, and work with Corporate Operations teams in each country to implement these plans and other key initiatives.
In addition, the Coordinator will be a point person in the event of any security or health emergency, will monitor security incidents and threats and communicate these to country teams as appropriate, will develop networks of security and health contacts across countries, and will work closely with the HR team to maintain databases of emergency and health information on staff in East Africa.
International Safety Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities:
· Strategic Leadership: You will be responsible for developing the organization’s strategy and policy for essential functions of security, health, safety, and transport.
· Regional management of systems: You will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving operations systems across our branches in East Africa. You will tailor the operational support to the various regions and to the nature of the program and staff in those areas.
· Emergency support: As One Acre Fund’s expert in security and health, you will provide advice and assistance in the event of any security or health incident or emergency affecting staff.
· Networking and coordination with similar organizations: You will develop relationships with current and potential security and health service providers as well as organizations similar to One Acre Fund, in order to share best practices and knowledge in these areas.
· Building resources: You will first build and strengthen our existing resources, also ensuring they are properly maintained and updated. Your work will also expand to create new resources for vehicles, health, and security as you deem necessary for the safety of all staff.
The International Safety Coordinator will be a member of the Corporate Operations department in East Africa. Currently, the Corporate Operations team consists of 6 international staff and 30+ local staff in 4 countries. In the next two to three years the team will grow to 10+ international staff and 100+ local staff in 6-7 countries.
