Ammunition Specialist

Job Summary
The Ammunition Specialist ensures safe handling of a variety of ammunition, explosives and rockets. Receives, stores and issues basic load ammunition items and accepts residue turn-ins in support of Ammunition Supply Point (ASP) operations.

Principal Accountabilities
Accept turn-ins of any military ammunition.
Conduct a 100% joint visual inspection with units, of ammunition residue and packaging materials.
Process small arms ammunition discrepancies as amnesty turn-ins.
Segregate expended cartridge cases.
Maintain the ASP Residue Area and accept and issue materials of residue.
Demilitarize selected ammunition residue.
Inspect loading/unloading of munitions at the ASP.
Receive ammunition via break bulk trailer and/or 463L pallets.
Escort vehicles to the designated storage location.
Identify discrepancies between actual stocks received and stocks annotated on shipping documents.
Assist in building 463L pallets for issue and turn in.
Ensure unit personnel load vehicles by compatibility of ammunition. Inspect unit vehicles.
Repack and mark less than full pack or non-standard packages of ammunition for issue.
Conduct a joint inventory of ammunition items being issued with the authorized customer representative.
Accept and process ammunition turn-ins including, ammunition found on post.
Accept turn-ins of confiscated military ammunition. Inspect 100 percent of unsealed live ammunition.
Aid unit personnel in unloading ammunition. Annotate turn-in quantities.
Perform inventories of ammunition stored in the ASP. Ensure that ammunition items are stored in magazines or on ammunition pads in accordance with security requirements.
Block and brace shipments. Verify that loaded items correspond with those listed on shipping documents.
Load and secure ammunition or residue. Provide proper ammunition and explosives storage and safety markings.
Clean ammunition storage pads and surrounding areas.
Perform other qualified duties as assigned.Knowledge & Skills
Possess the background necessary to be granted access to government computers.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Able to work calmly under stress.
Able to operate vehicles including, but not limited to pick-up trucks, heavy trucks and forklifts.
Able to segregate ammunition by restriction and other guidelines.
Able to maintain hardware and software systems and manual information recording.
Working knowledge of military ASP operations.
Knowledge of ammunition and hazardous material handling to ensure the safe receipt, storage, issue and movement of ammunition, explosives, chemicals, or radioactive materials in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of pallet building including 463L for shipment of ammunition preferred.
Working knowledge of the Standard Ammunition and Accounting System-Modernized (SAAS-MOD) computer system desired.

Experience & Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of directly related experience is required.
Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred.
Prior service as an MOS 89B (Ammunition Specialist) or similar military specialty code preferred.
AMMO 62 course completion and certification for HAZDEC shipping preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Place of duty and environmental conditions can be extremely austere, harsh, and work can be performed under hostile and life-threatening conditions.
Working environment will be both office and outdoor settings which individual can be exposed to extreme weather conditions for extended period of time.
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Ability to work 12 hour shifts; 7 days a week.

Travel
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
